I have a backpack which has molle panel and 4 bottom loops. Anyway to attach something 10L-ish to expand the capacity for a road trip? Molle pouches arent usually 10L big, and they usually are in bottle shapes which i dont find user friendly. Another way is to get a 10L dry tube and find some way to attach to molle or bottom loops...

Hi people,

I'm looking to get a new EDC/everyday pack and have narrowed down my choices to the following - can owners of these packs chime in:

1. Alchemy Equipment AEL-021/AEL002
2. Black Ember Citadel Minimal 25L
3. RYU Locker Pack 24L
4. Wndrd Prvke 31L
5. AER Duffel Pack

Looks-wise, I really like the Alchemy Equipment but from online reviews it seems that their bags tend to hold less than advertised. I do prefer clamshells and zip access bags as they allows for much easier packing IMO.

For reference, I think roughly 28L will be a sweet spot, as I lug around on the daily a 15" laptop, a pair of size US9.5 gym shoes, 1 change of gym clothes, toiletries, 1 medium-sized tupperware for meals and my tech carry (e.g. powerbank, thumb drive, USB cables).

Hope someone's able to provide some insight. Thanks!

How about Sling bag?

Check out the Bento Bag by Nomad in Indiegogo

Also .... Check out Chase reviews YouTube channel

I love the way and manner he gives his comments and opinions about various backpacks
best of all, he always just throw things inside and try to pack it to the maximum

if you are looking at clamshell.... AER duffle pack doesn't fit what you are looking at, in fact you should consider their AER Travel pack instead.

Hey thanks for the insights! No to sling bags LOL. I commute a lot and slings tend to swing around and knock into things. Also because of the asymmetrical style of carrying, I often get an aching shoulder.

I do follow Chase and also Pack Hacker's reviews.

After some consideration, I've decided to look at zip access bags as well as clamshells - hence I've included the Aer Duffle Pack and also the RYU Locker Pack 24L (see my edited post). I realized that with some creative packing, I don't really need the full 30L as 24-26L can also suffice. :)

In other news, Alchemy Equipment just launched its Carrylogy collab - the AEL 222! A steep retail price at USD 350 shipped but boy does it look gorgeous:

I hope to travel to NZ one day to try out their bags in person. :s12:

There's also a thread on reddit where Carrylogy addresses public opinion about this latest collab. I find it a good read to know the thought process that went into this bag: https://www.reddit.com/r/ManyBaggers/comments/a11f00/alchemy_equipment_x_carryology_ael222_first_look/

It does seem like this bag will lack admin pockets based on the thread replies. Might be a deal breaker for some!

For such a steep price, you can check out North face Kaban backpack as well

When on promotion...Its cost easily half the price of AEL and comes with lifetime warranty

Thanks for the Kaban reco! I've actually seen and handled the Kaban in person before. The tonal black version (which is exactly what you posted and coincidence that you also like all black stealth-looking packs?) was going on sale at SGD140 at Liv Activ's outlet at Changi City Point in August and I was quite conflicted to get it. For a while I believe it could be the answer to my EDC problems.

I didn't get it though in the end because the zip access is kinda funky - it zips almost all the way down on one side but only halfway on the other side. More importantly, I spotted 3 guys within the month carrying a Kaban. Call me strange but I didn't want to get a pack someone else in Singapore would have. :s13:

In any case, the Kaban in navy is still available at the Changi City outlet I believe when I went back 2 weeks ago

I am waiting for my Errant backpack to arrive...

Will do unboxing when it finally hits my home...

I didn't get the Kaban as well... Imo the overall design is too "backpacking"

Cool! Please keep us posted. From online reviews and promo vids it seems to hit the sweet spot for most EDC users.

I think the Kaban is fine for what it intends to do, which is a budget-friendly EDC with a sleek urban look and weather resistant materials.

I don't really get the backpacking vibe from it but I felt the admin pockets could have been better designed. To me, it feels like they took the pockets from a hotshot or borealis, and cloned them into the kaban. Passable but barely, and for me, I'm looking for perfectly-designed EDC pockets e.g. more stretchable materials, more ease of access, better zippers!

It's a good-looking bag at its price point though. I also tested out its capacity and it can definitely handle a laptop, gym shoes and clothes, plus tech carry.
