Been carrying my favourite Black Tatonka Andro 20 for nearly 7-8 years for work & normal outing.
Another year has past & finally found a reasonable replacement for my 9 year old Tatonka Andro 20 which is getting pretty rundown.
Timbuk2 Especial Medio Cycling Laptop Backpack. Apparently version 1 came out in 2013. Current Version 2 in 2014.
I was pretty much sold base on physical appearance.
First impressions?
Pros:
- Slim rectangular profile. This is one of the main deciding factor. No 'short' & 'stout' bags for me
- A huge plus for me is the multiple pockets to stash items accessible at the front without opening the main compartment.
- water resistance. (I have yet to verify that base on my own experience)
- reasonable looking back panel & straps. (Better than Andro's X Vent Vario Carrying-System? We shall see.)
- Black/Gunmetal looks pretty good. Would prefer an ALL BLACK but still acceptable
Cons:
- I pretty much hate the inner color. Its like a "screaming" blue to me. Prefer something more covert
- Main compartment is just one big ass compartment.
No way to split it into 2 parts & not accessible from the base, unlike the Andro
- Main compartment is well........just 1 main compartment.
Granted there is 1 flimsy mesh pocket & another big slot for notebook. But that's it!
For their premium product I Would expect more organizational zipper pockets internally as well.
This was a disappointment
How is it gonna fair? Can it go the distance like the Andro? Till the review if there is one.
