thats totally irresponsible. you need to go through a proper eye health exam. after that a contact lens fitting must be done. to try different lenses on and the optometrist will assess them on your eye and observe how it behaves while on the eye. you should make a report to the OOB. they'll get it a lot worst if the person who gave the contact lenses to you is an optician instead of an optometrist

English | OOB

Wash with sterile saline. If really very dirty wash with multipurpose solution

any optometrist will do. we are obligated to do a full lens fitting before we prescribe the lenses to patients. If not complain them to OOB if they refuse.

warhunter can advice where do I go for a proper lens fitting (other than np which is so far from me)?

I bought my first set of lens from Crystal Optics and this is what they prescribe to me. I hardly wore as I always find it uncomfortable makes my eyes dry n blur after awhile.

your optometrist can do it. go back to them. REQUEST to see an optometrist not an optician (they are not licensed to do Contact lenses). make sure they do the whole contact lens fitting on you. of cos they may charge a fee. alternatively go to the teaching schools they should do it v cheap cos its a teaching school. but now holidays iirc.

thats what a contact lens fitting should look like. ignore the brand advertisement. LOL. contact lens fitting is not just the checking of your eye power. that is wrong and unethical.

ask to look at their practicing cert (a green card with photo ID- issued by the optometrists and opticians board,sg)

then obviously they did not see if your lenses fit well or not. time to complain to the board.:s13:

the lens companies in singapore don't even do up these kinds of video to educate the consumers because the law doesnt need them to be responsible for prescription. In singapore, sales flow is king. which ever brand sells the fastest make the most money. that's why no one is advocating the right way of contact lens fitting. in other countries there is strictly no buying lenses over the counter without a valid and non expired prescription

Hi Warhunter, I recently visited a few optometrist and was told that I have limited options for my contact lens as my power is positive and I have astig. Mostly recommended Acuvue Moist for Astig but I heard that Acuvue Trueye is very comfy. Do you know of other brands which have the comfy technology of Acuvue Trueye and have the option of positive power with Astig?

Thanks in advance!

all these hearsay is the work of the frikin media. no such thing as more comfy lenses. lenses are precribed for you only. and if it suits you. it should work out fine 90% of the time.

In fact if you go by theory. older generation lenses like acuvue moist may actually be more comfortable than new generation lenses like trueye. the reason lies in the "hardness" of the lenses. older lenses work by having loads of water to bring oxygen to your eye. thus the lenses are softer. newer gen lenses incorporates sillicon into into the lenses material making the lenses harder.

Comfort aside, newer generation lenses are more healthy for eyes and allow longer hours of lens wear because of higher oxygen flow. Then again, try to keep your lens wear to 8 Hr/day + 5 days a week.

newer gen lenses allow longer hours but still try not to put them on for longer than 10 hrs.

you are far sighted. that the lenses that are available for you. make sure a lens fitting is performed too. the power may be correct but the size/base curve may not be right.

when i ride bike and the wind blows quite hard at my face the contacts start to get uncomfortable. is there any reason why or it's just because of plain irritation?
