my right eye need an astig lens.

as my curvature or some shape or axis of my right eye isnt a acuvue default, the optician told me to try another brand for my right eye.

but the problem is, that brand dont have my axis or something, so when i wear it, my right eye will confirm be blur..words at a dist is blur

when I try acuvue (which dont have the correct curvature), it isnt blur (axis correct?), but feels like it dries up much quicker, and will feel like its gona drop out

any advise on whether i shld go ahead with acuvue astig, or the other brand's?
Shape/base curve determines the fit. And fit can have a big impact on the health of your eye.
Axis determines the sharpness of the astigmatism lens.
Both are different things. Listen to your optometrist. No one can decide for you without looking at the fitting of the lenses and your vision with lenses.

A bad fitting lens can give u lots of complications.

the optician ask me to decide :S

He should make the professional decision. It is because Singaporeans like to complain blurry when we tried our best. Its no choice he asked u to decide LOL. And lastly we are not opticians. Opticians are not allowed/trained to prescribe contact lenses

I need advice: why does my contact lenses shift around my eyes? And sometime the lenses will block my vision. I'm using Freshkon Alluring Eyes lenses.

If its moving around too much. The lens is not fitting well for you. Lenses move on the eyes. We want enough movement for lens wear to be healthy. But too much movement give a whole new set of potential complications

depends on which acuvue you're talking about. acuvue there is moist and trueye. trueye is more expensive because its a sillicone hydrogel lens. it is the newer material of the 2 acuvues.
other daily lenses have different material too. typically the newer materials cost more.

Just checking if anyone here wears specs over their contacts?

Basically my astig (350+) is too high for normal dailies. My power has been dropping (850-650) so I dont want to go for lasik just yet. I have dailies contact just for occasional usage (1-2 times a mth), I can see things normally, just a bit blur, so thinking of getting a pair of degree shades to help compensate for it.

My optician says that it's doable, and a lot cheaper than if I were to make a pair that fully compensates for the 350 astig and 650 power. Wanna see if anyone has tried that and what kind of results they got. Or if anyone has a better suggestions

Its basically trial and error. Soft lenses with astigmatism with that high astig is quite hard to stabilise on the eye. So you can only try it out and see how it goes. Of cos you can leave the glasses over contact lenses as last resort.

Can you also elaborate more on your power dropping? Either you were over corrected before or u have an eye disease that caused that. Because myopia do not drop.

The "drop"that people often talk about as you get older is because your muscles in the eye are not strong enough compensate for the over correction as you get older.

woah, I read so many pages, and I see so many posts by warhunter :s22:

I want to wear contact lens for the first time, so basically I can go to any shop with a certified optometrist giving me assessment can le right? Why my frens all tell me go specs shop buy can le? Means the shops doing illegal stuff? :s11:

I see some posts saying SP/NP being cheaper at like $5, so does it mean other commercial shops very expensive?

According to MOH,there are 3 types of Opticians, and Opticians with Contact Lens Practice can Dispense and fit contact lenses. So we can go to specs shops and ask them which type they belong to?:s8:

Basically yes. Most shop doing illegal things. But they have been clamping down recently. Giving warning and fines. But in the long run, patients/consumers suffer because no one cares. Its a prescription only item which cannot be bought. It must be prescribed. Most optometrists don't charge for lens fitting because we don't have a culture of charging for services. So mist people assume that it is free. Therefore most not willing to do it and sell over the counter

@warhunter , ah okok, just checking to see if anyone here has tried it and gotten nausea, etc etc. Been thinking about doing it for a while now, might just try it out.

yup, it should be me getting older, which is causing the drop. This is the other reason for me not to get Lasik until it settles a bit. My optictian did ask me to check with a ENT cause she saw signs of early onset cartracts with her machine, says that need a professional to check it out.

What do you mean ENT? Do you mean eye doctor. Yea. Cataracts can cause a huge drop in prescription too. A huge drop without a cause is essentially just an overcorrection that was left there for years. And no one bothered.

oops, yes, an eye doc. My error. Mine is a steady drop over the years, around 50 degree a year, not a sudden drop. I would be in a bit of a panic if it is. It was stable until about 5-6 yrs ago, then started dropping. I started at about 850 per side.

I've changed a few opticians over the years, which is not a good practise, I know. But sometimes want a 2nd opinion. :s13: Now using one at Bishan, but her frames are pretty limited, so... is it common for people to buy a frame at a place and then make the lens at their usual optician? My requirement is having those extended pads and springs at the arms, which seems to be pretty rare now. :(

seriously I dont know. I've been out of singapore for years and we dont practice the way singapore optometrists practice here in Australia. A full eye check is needed even before glasses can be prescribed. the way the singapore market is moving is not best practice in a first world setting.
