Thanks. I did tell them. The first recommended another pair of specs for night time. The second said fitting was good, my only option was to try to use bigger diameter but he didn't recommend it.

Thanks bro. The uncle said that a bigger diameter would offer more stability but he didn't recommend it. Also, do you know how the hybrid soft lens compare to RGP? I can't find anything online. But looking at specifications, the hybrids are more permeable than the RGPs?

Lol I think they can change it one but don't want. If its fitting well shouldn't give u problems. Ask them don't bs. Successful lens wear= good fitting + good comfort + good patient compliance

Actually not really leh. He said the insurance was bought already and I could if I wanted to. Just that he doesn't think that it would help much. And the bigger diameter would cause much more discomfort

Actually larger lenses will be more comfortable. As long as the lenses are centred well. Large lens will only be uncomfortable if it moves beyond the black part of your eyes. If it stays centred it will not.

In actual fact larger rgps are preffered nowadays because of the stability and comfort. Maybe he grad long ago ba

You are quick to judge.

not judging. cheapest source let me direct u to Online shops. where u can't get fittings done.

most brands have their own RRP. if you go to one that sells below the RRP. likely they can't spend much chair time with you. and multifocal lenses require heaps of chair time to find the ideal combi.

IMHO, go to the heartlands. those tiny shops. you have chance of getting them below rrp.

Already had my prescription, just not wanting to pay the RRP, which is so expensive especially in Singapore. If you know a shop that sell below RRP then tell me, if not you are not really helping by repeating the same thing every time someone ask.

make sure you have the prescription signed by a licensed practitioner. usually the expiry of the prescription is 1 year.

I cant do that. its a wrong advice. if they sell it to you without checking your eyes. its still illegal. Just sayin.

Most neighbourhood stores sell them below rrp.

yes. it is required by law. contact lenses are medical devices. improper fitting contact lenses can lead to more complications. some of the complications are blinding. if you go to a shop that sells you the lenses without checking, you can report them to the ministry of health. severe actions will be taken.

buying lenses over the counter is seeking your own grave. any thing happens, you got no grounds to sue. if a fitting is done, and something goes wrong, you have the right to seek compensation if you think the consultation was not done appropriately.

moreover, glasses prescription is not a contact lens prescription. contact lens prescription must clearly state the brand and type of contact lenses as well as the wearing schedule.

Thanks for your reply! Where can I get contact lenses fitting done? Can it be done at any optical shop or only at clinics like NPOC as mentioned several pages back?

I dont know where this idea came about but NO it is not only available at clinics.

SP and NP optometry centre are teaching schools. obviously they do it. SP is more accessible of course the MRT goes right to the school. But all optometrists are trained and licensed to do it. They must do it before prescribing contact lenses.

Thanks for the info! There seem to be many type of lenses like daily, monthly and bi weekly. The longer the lenses are meant to be used the thicker they will be right? Also read about RGP lenses which are harder? Is there a quick crash course on this? Sorry so many qns haha

Type of lenses depend very much on your lifestyle. If my patients come to me on a budget I will ask them not to wear CL. A person on a budget wouldn't be willing to spend on cleaning and caring for the lenses. Scrimp and save on solutions. Some use one bottle of solution for half a year. That's disgusting. Your optometrist will advise u on the lenses based on your needs

Agree on that haha. But its ok to be prescripted CL whereby I just wear it once in a while just for special occasions right (e.g. when i wear sunglasses) ? Im not really looking to wear it on a daily basis.

No longer working in Singapore. No one pays for consultation. No meaning for us to do everything and no one pays.

I have astigmatism. Would like to wear contacts for certain activites (soccer, diving, etc).
I should take dailies? What is the proper way to get fitted with contacts?
Warhunter keeps saying the optometrist should let u try a pair, then do checks subsequently.
I have a pair of contacts that I got from the shop when i did my specs a year back. The shop just ordered it for me based on my specs power. Didnt do any fitting. The contacts are still in my drawer (expiry 2017). So this is the wrong way?
