Hi all just bought spark for a few weeks only. I diy a parabolic reflector last week and tested out at Bishan MRT. With the reflector i flew to 250m (from the telemetry data on my hp) then the video signal start to distort. Without the reflector signal start to distort at about 100m. Height is........!!!
I use cardboard and aluminium surface tape , one roll $5 from hardware shop.

Another stupid trial was to mount runcam on spark with Velcro, Spark lost control once it took off. It accent immediately once took off and not controller and i activated RTH at about 40m in the air, scare losing it. After that see multi warning but i was looking at my spark more than my hp , hoping to recover it by visual if it starts to fly away.

Lucky land it without further issue after RTH , it descent slowly and managed to control at about 20m height.

Purpose for mounting runcam is to do video comparison.

I will still mount it but will use cable tie to the rotor arm than to velcro it across the spark fuselage.

are you using spark's remote control? your h/p wifi should be connecting to the remote control. And remote control relays the drone's video to your h/p. Try using usb otg cable connecting spark's remote control to h/p instead. it should be due to some interference such that there are frequent wifi network drop on your h/p, especially when your spark is at further location and remote control operates with more power to link to it. using direct cable link between remote control and h/p should provide stable video.
I'm still waiting for my OTG USB cable ordered for my spark, and had not tried that yet

Mounting your runcam on top of spark likely will hit the propellers. Are you mounting your runcam at the bottom of spark? Note that if you mount your runcam below the spark you might block the optical positioning sensors. Check the comments inside my video here, i was having problem mounting a firefly Q6 onto spark so I had to mount Q6 onto the H502S.

Yes I am using remote with OTG cable. I know there are alot of interference at the open field there. So that is also a place good for testing any mod done. I have not tried to the extend of making the drone to have loss of signal and RTH. I bought the parabolic reflector online and will test out diy and factory made reflector to see the difference.

I mount the cam below at the belly, ya like you have said, i might have block the sensor but i thought the sensor are working when carrying out indoor flying where they do vision sensing. I shall reposition it and try again.


I have a JJRC X3 and i mounted the runcam without issue but the range for X3 is bad, any interference it will RTH immediately. I can only fly far when i bring it to Marina barrage. Flying X3 at the next to Bishan MRT , it will RTH at 60m distance , very irritating.

wow, you are right, hachi now selling fly-more-combo + extra battery (total 3 batteries) at S$888.
i got my fly more combo (total 2 batteries) from hachi at S$899

dji spark is a video drone, gives quality camera output but you can only fly outdoor for video, photos or selfie taking. Even if you already have a dji spark, likely you will need a smaller cheap drones for fun flying, indoor flying, and some aerobatic maneuvers.

so for beginner, is better to get some cheaper drone first, something similar to..
if indoor: XK-X150W, dji Tello (with optical flow sensor), but I had bad experience on XK's product
if outdoor: Hubsan H502S or H501S (with GPS guided)

with optical sensors or GPS, the drone will hover at the same spot if you are not touching the remote control (will not drift)

Once after you had learned about drones' features, capabilities limits, and your own set of requirements, you will be in better position/knowledge to pick the more expensive drone. your next drone could be mavic air, spark, bebop 2, Mi drone or phantom.

On amazon now, Yuneec Breeze is at US$200 and Bebop 2 is at US$285 (vs a S$599 dji spark). Both are new basic unit controlled by handphone for max 70-80m. Video not as good as spark but cheaper.

but hor, please buy spark later leh. we got too few sparks buddies here...

If you don't drive it will be difficult to fly drone as you need to travel to a place where you can fly.

Before going into better drone, just try out toygrade drone with GPS tracking.

I have a JJRC Pro X3 to let go, comes with 7 batteries.

lazada also has few sellers selling spark combo + extra battery at S$799, and that is cheaper than Hachi/Challenger. May be these sellers are more serious. Just make sure there is no 7% GST, hachi price is GST included.

if still cannot get a spark, then may be join me to wait for a dji tello available in Mar 2018. Inside china selling at <S$150 now. I think can use bluetooth game pad to control tello. only problem is tello go no MicroSD slot on drone.

dji tello's video quality and image stabilizing looks like not too good. they made the mistake of not putting a MicroSD slot onto the drone. right now for good quality videos/photos, minimum got to buy a spark, or a bebop2, or a yuneec breeze.

I was looking out for the Tello too but it wasn't there.

There were some other small drones on display liked the parrot and certain brands that started with J or something.

The interesting one is the parrot which can shoot a cannon whilst hovering in the air

& if i not wrong, saw there a PowerRay underwater drone too, good for stalking bikini shot!

Just added a single-axis (tilt only) camera gimbal onto my 220mm diy-quadcopter.
Constructed by cheap servo actuator, some 3D printed plastic parts, and using CleanFlight's camera stabilizer.
It works! although not perfect, a cheapo solution to get better videos.

Result is quite good, yeah now I have a video drone producing better videos than Hubsan H501x, Bugs2 or JJRC X3. may be better than dji tello also.

Total cost of drone+camera is about S$200+. Meanwhile this will be my "poorman's Mavic", until I save enough pocket $$ for that genuine Mavic Air.

oops!!... getting cheaper and cheaper, ~S$730 from reliable amazon itself. Price dropping like handphone like that. all rushing to clear stocks.

but not sure of shipping charges as not familiar with amazon.
~S$730 is half the price of Mavic Air Fly More Combo.
