Straight into Mavic Pro. U knew that u like flying drone and u knew Mavic Pro is solid. U can’t go wrong with these 2 good reasons alone

Me got no mavic pro, but I agree that Mavic Pro is probably best (or the platinum version if u can afford....heard about the white version sold by Apple)

hi all, am currently looking into getting a drone for my upcoming states trip (think along lines of grand canyon and Hollywood sign in LA :D). was reading up about Tello when I found out about xiaomi's mitu drone, and been reading reviews for both ever since.

it seems that the main difference between the 2 is onboard storage and the image stabilization (amongst others such as sensors etc). for me personally my phone has 128gb storage so getting the Tello wouldn't be a problem. Would just like to check how important / how much effect does the sensors / image stabilization have on quality of photos / videos?

Also from the 2 which do you guys think will fare better in moderate wind (considering the places I intend to use them are vast and open)?

perhaps anyone who has either can share their views on their drones and any help will be much appreciated! (also as you guys can tell my budget is in this kind of drones range :o)

Thanks in advance! :s12: :D

I not sure about xiaomi drone, but tello is mainly for home or flying around your house and backyard. U mentioned about US and scenic places (pls check if these places allow drones?). If u taking mostly selfie, with drone just a few meters away, maybe tello OK. Price wise I think it's around $150 (or less now, but no RC). But if u want to ALSO take scenic videos under windy conditions, then tello is no-no.

Others here can advise u, but first, maybe u can inform more about what type of pics and videos u intend to do, and your budget? Bear in mind that Tello, while cheap, does not come with a rc. Buy a rc, and throw in a few batteries, u are probably not far from a Spark (fly more combo is around +-700, depending on card discounts on shopee or lazada, the latter u can buy via installments with ocbc card).

I would advise at least a Spark; with tello, all u need is a gentle breeze and it might be blown out of position. Also depends on what your budget is?

Lastly, in US, the sunlight is very strong, and u might need ND filters. Not sure if such filters exist for tello even, but there are for spark and the other dji models. Plenty to check out and decide.... And invest.

I have seen my frd tello flew off at East Coast. Took off just a metre, n the wind blew it away. Luckily inland, he managed to chased it n retrieved it.

Okay I will check regarding flying drones at those places.

as for budget it hovers around this miti/Tello range haha. not willing to fork out too much as of now. no RC is fine cos I can use my phone. I think for Tello with accessories etc it wouldn't cost more than ~$250 perhaps? (haven't done proper research on this)

As for the usage it will be for personal travel video kind, just thought this particular trip with the use of a drone will be from a different perspective.

Have been reading up and seeing videos on YouTube too regarding Tello's performance in windy condition and tbh I feel it's not too bad? unless there's something I'm missing.

Tello is basically a toy,not suitable for video or photo. The quality taken will not be gd. The range sucks as well. Do go watch YouTube reviews.

Get min a spark if u want to take vid or photo for oversea trips.

New DJI Mavic 2 ‘Enterprise’ edition photos show up providing us with more details of the new foldable drone

https://dronedj.com/2018/07/13/new-...-with-more-details-of-the-new-foldable-drone/

Wah, I think dji has really taken drones to the next level: modular. Was reading into marine drones and already at least one new drone has modular parts that u can buy and add/modify. Perhaps dji has decided to go into this area?

Can't help but wonder what those two, modular things are for.... The left one looks a lot like a speaker, and the other one just looks like a light bulb (with a battery pack)?

Imagine flying a drone 2km away and u blast your voice into the mic :)

I have to agree with evq that, I would suggest the spark too... The tello is really more like a good toy but, with sudden strong wind or gusts, it might be swept aside before u know it.... And worst still, fly and smack into someone.

Or see if u can rent a tello and try it out? I know there are folks who rent out the spark or air on a daily basis. Not sure about tello.

Also, check for videos on the negatives of tello. It does not fly well in open areas with some wind. And don't forget, u r not going to use a rc... That might just make controlling the tello with wind a lot more trickier.

My two cents worth.

Just think of the spark as a good mid range camera that can fly, is stable (two axis timbles), and can hold the wind well (it should not be swept away that easily by wind), and gives pretty good videos and pics.... And u have the rc to use too.

Was just reading the comments on lazada or shopee on tello... One customer said that the tello motor died after one month and asked about repairs and warranty. So, brushed (tello) and brushless motors (other more expensive drones) also relates to the price. Brushed ones may overheat easily but much less for brushless ones.

I bet your Friend don’t fly drones. Else he would at least have a rough idea how stable is a 80g toy drone Tello in the air compare to its 300g sparks and 734 g Mavic Pro counter parts.

Don’t waste your $250.

I owed hubsan drones and a few others before. All brushed motors are lousy . They don’t last at all

After spending last night watching YouTube videos of spark, air and Tello I'll forego getting the Tello as of now. not worth the risk losing it / not being able to capture the shots that I want. initially thought of getting the Tello for myself so that I can use it for future trips. But I guess for now I'll hold off on buying it and borrow my cousin's spark. Thank you very much guys! :D

If u r new to drone, my advice is to borrow from ur cousin n play with it, feel it n gauge urself if spark is suitable for u. Then buy one urself to practise more before the actual trip.

Don't bring oversea n crash or lost it. Drone can be very unpredictable during strong wind or low batt or when signal lost due to u foresee interference.

Next, once u decided to buy, get more batteries n a gd bag. YouTube is a gd place to learn n get tips.

yes the fear of losing it / spoiling it is actually one of the reasons why I thought of getting one (affordable) one for myself. my cousin's set is complete with additional batteries, bag, and the RC. just need to take care and learn how to use them properly and safely. yes, YouTube will be my guide for these 2 weeks as I prepare myself :D
