The relocated the LED flash and heartrate monitor do make it better, but the fingerprint sensor is still at a weird position. More people are more concerned about back fingerprint placement than wanting a in screen fingerprint sensor.

Nobody seems to complain about LG G6 fingerprint sensor location at all.

Someone actually skipped S8 and bought LG G6 only reason is because of S8 weird fingerprint placement http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/106980413-post273.html

Many like me actually skip S8 for the on screen FPS on Note 8. Now left disappointed and really a dilemma on what to get.

So a fingerprint sensor will determine how good or bad a phone is???

:s11::s11::s11:

Never mind the dual camera will be the best in the market as of now, never mind the screen is one of the best in the market now, never mind the S pen and further improved S pen features, never mind the audio DAC which Samsung is improving with each iterations of their flagships, etc etc etc

The on-screen fingerprint sensor may not be ready for this year's flagship but it will be ready when Samsung is ready to release it

By the way, if you look carefully, the issue of user accidentally touching the lens when trying to use the fingerprint sensor at the back is now eliminated. Samsung has now relocated the LED flash and heartrate monitor to be BETWEEN the fingerprint sensor and dual lens. This means you will be touching the LED flash and heartrate monitor when you are using the fingerprint sensor instead of the lenses.

At least Samsung has tried to improve on the back fingerprint sensor while still figuring out how to implement the on-screen fingerprint sensor for their AMOLED screens

I give Samsung credit for improving on the things customers are complaining about.....

Edited to add images of Note8 and S8+ for comparison
Look carefully the location of the LED flash and heartrate monitor

I am absolutely ok if Note 8 is same price or like $50 more than S8+. But if it's the rumoured here that it's about $200-250 more with basically no new technology, are we entitled to make noise?

Of course the price is still not confirmed yet, so we'll see how it is first.

Like I said previously, the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version of the S8+ is already retailing at around S$1500 in India right now

So, the S$1550 suggested retail price of Note8 (also 6GB RAM but of course not 128GB storage, at least not for the "basic" model) is not too far off from the 6GB RAM, 128GB storage version of the S8+ that is selling in India right now. Not forgetting Note8 has dual camera (touted as the best-in-class as of now) and S pen and whatever stuff that is packed in the Note8

Will have to wait for more leaks to see if there are additional features packed into the Note8 or not

Edit to Add:
I believe the focus of the Note8 will be the dual camera, so therefore I am expecting fantastic camera UI and quality shots and videos. Samsung never fails to deliver outstanding quality images and videos. And if rumors are true, the camera modules used will be the newer ISOCELL camera modules

I dun care what India is selling at. They tio chop doesn't mean that's what we should get also. My point is the upgrade simply is not worth that price difference

It all boils down to what is acceptable to the individual

Some people will feel better camera, more RAM, improved S pen functionality, etc is worth the price

Similarly, some people will also feel whatever improvements added is not worth the price increase

No matter what, most, if not all, phones will get more expensive every year as more and more stuff gets added/improved upon and with newer version of hardware components that make up the phone

It's said that the space below the camera will be filled with the big battery so there's no place for the fingerprint sensor to be below the camera.

or it could also be to avoid law suits of copying the design of the phones of other brands.......

phone designs can be copyrighted

there used to be law suits of phone companies suing each other for phone designs......

If the next flagship dun have on screen FPS, Samsung should just close down already. It's supposed to be in Note 8.

Not saying it's bad, but this Note just feel like the most disappointing Note ever in terms of features.

As moi hv said previously, they will not one-shot release or launch all features/new tech.. they do it bit by bit..

if they release evrything on this N8, they what are they going to do abt future S9/N9, S10/N10 etc ? How much new features and new tech they can squeeze in further ?

Eg. for this upcoming N8, the main focus or selling point ish obviously the "best of its class" dual-cam thingy (plus other enhancements of existing feature eg. more internal storage/RAM).. previously on N7 and S8, the iris ish the talking point..

Another eg. ish they alr can make water-resistant, why not might as well make it full waterproof ? Same logic... implement it on "future" new launches..

Now, for the on-screen fingerprint they definitely know how to implement it alr.. but they bullshiat tell the public that they still cant get the thing right.. just so that they can push the implementation and make it the selling point of next S9/N9..

Samsung use rectangle shape FPS. Seems like nobody have the same rectangle shape FPS should be no copyright problem.

HTC, Oppo use square FPS near middle top similar position.
LG, xiaomi use round FPS near middle top similar position.

Nowadays its the era or trend "I copy u, u copy me.. chiu close one eye moi close one eye"..

phone designs are not so much of a concern, as long Brand A fone dun copy "wholefully" the designs of Brand B.. same similarity (but diff "look") still considered ok..

just look at XM.. they song song copy ifong and samsuck design.. but they make it "same same but diff".. if they were to wholefully copy, think XM now kana sue until pants drop or bankrupt by the two giants.. :s13:

If buy Note 8 now $1500 and one year later when Note 9 comes out, roughly can sell Note 8 for about how much? Or trade in how much

I think note 9 would be a phone that have functions/design that future phones will be quite similiar. In screen fingerprint sensor, dual back camera, front display without button.

Fwah.. hvnt buy and use, thinking of selling alr.. :D

chiu dun believe, wait and see.. by N9/N10 or latest by N11 release, they will finally implement the stereo speakers (when they actually can do it long ago).. :s8:

That extra 200-250 ish for the extra internal storage, RAM and dual-cam thing compared to its latest S family flagships.. do chiu think it worth the price ?

as in a whole, $1.5K for a fone wif N8 features do chiu think worth it ? :s8:

Today, ppl are becuming more and more demanding on the quality of photography/videography.. and that implies too on the phonecam platform.. samsuck knows this well..

thats why over the yrs they hv been trying to improve on its phonecam tech, even to the extend of "borrow" Sony brand phone cameras/sensors as Sony is one of the gurus in camera/camcorder tech..

just look at that Whiteant.. keep haolian and praising how tokgong the cam on his s7e.. :D:s13:

PS: Hard truth tho, no matter how tokgong a phonecam is, it can nvr outfight the proper full cam.. :(

Sony is one of the few sensor manufacturers in the world... and their camera sensors are the best in the market at this point... better than what Samsung is able to produce... of course they will use Sony sensors for their flagships... even the iPhone uses Sony sensors exclusively...
