:vijayadmin: Singtel user here,

Recently got a Samsung Note 8 from singtel and S8+ open brand new from box and both update to the latest ver 8.0 Oreo.
My home router is from singtel too (AC Elite)

No problem with S8+ BUT,

My Note 8 facing WIFI dropping, cannot load, exclamation mark appears next to the wifi sign repeatly.

ALL THIS STEPS does not resolve the problem
-reset network setting
-clear cache partition
-factory reset phone.

After factory reset, problem still occurred constantly every 20/30mins, it's so frustrating. Called Samsung hotline to check, the support guy just ask me to do the above steps which I’d already did, and ask me to send it down to service centre.

Please HELP…… end up I re-contracted a useless phone which I cannot use WIFI at home…

just wondering, u update to oreo or new in box already installed with oreo 8?
if u updated, since u just got the phone, see can claim u get a "defective" set and ask ST give you a 1-1 exchange?
(you bought from Singtel shop right?)

if already pre-installed, then would "lemon law" apply? i.e. Singtel sell you a set with functions that don't work as advertised. Or since yours is a ST router, ask ST give you a new router of a different brand? (i cannot remember if Singtel shop stock routers) (anyway I think it is unlikely they will give you a router)

most likely scenario. justify/ request for bill waiver, then you use the $ saved to buy a router urself
or ask them give you FOC XX months of extra data etc.
depends on how you "negotiate" with ST. I think as long you are reasonable and can justify, ST may try to help you.

the best solution right now is to send it to service center. they likely change motherboard for you

Presuming you are using Singtel default router, you can try testing Wifi with all phones that you have with the default router and with neighbour router if possible. This should at least somewhat determine if ST default router has issues or is crappy or there is an issue with your phone.

maybe i just update my setup for reference.

Routers:
- Asus AC88U & AC68U (AiMESH)
- Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO

Phone: Note 8 with Oreo

= No issue.

So issue could lie with ST default router, be it lousy or settings, or phone. Need 1 more factor to further confirm on this.

I assume you are also using a Singtel router. You might want to change router until the update to fix the wifi issue with the Singtel router is out.

if Samsung is selling defective products (i.e. the SW inside not working), shouldn't it be Samsung to give us solution? (e.g. loan affected customers phone, refund, loan router etc)

why come consumers need find solutions themselves.
not everyone know how to come forum to ask questions or troubleshoot.

at the min. SS/ Telco should tell announce the issue and share the resolution they are taking on their website or in their shops.

my colleague's 2 phone till today still cannot connect to wireless@sgx and I told them wait for patch.
they already commenting why SS so "lousy" and bad service one.

There is a update on the way within June to fix issues with Wifi connecting to the Singtel routers. Give them a bit more time.

In the mean time it is best to swap out ST routers for any other.

Take it as a lesson learn, get other brand next time. But there's no perfect phone. Take what u can tolerate.

Problem is: is it Samsung at fault?? I mean is Samsung really selling defective products? That a serious claim you know. Nothing is wrong with my wifi connection with my set connecting to my Asus router at home. Both bands are doing fine. I can connect to wireless sgx too at food centers, libraries and train stations. I can even connect to my Xiaomi A1 Hotspot too just a few days ago.

In fact I read other brands will also have similar issues when comes to connectivity. I'm not saying Samsung is perfect. But sometimes, if you are unfortunate to receive a lemon set, that's too bad.

i guess the problem arises after the oreo upgrade. instead of complaining here, why not bring it to service center to get it fixed?

Samsung is not selling defective hardware for this case. Just "defective" software.

They never test fully with all available wireless routers etc and release the updates.

Just like their updates that bricked their QLED TV and Gear Fit2 Pro. Just google and you can read so many cases.

Want to be safe? Once Samsung released their updated software, wait for as many feedback as possible then update. :s22:

You expect them to test with all available routers in the entire planet?

Nope.

How about for Samsung from respective countries to test what are mostly available (eg provided by telcos) in their respective countries?

For SG, wireless routers provided to SingTel/M1/Starhub fiber subscribers?

Or even reach out to the local telcos to ask them to help test the new firmware/software.

Very difficult meh? :s11:

I see SingTel reaching out to Samsung to clarify issue and work to get a fix, no?

You will not see this, but I've seen comms in the background out of public eyes related to this matter and they worked together to get this one very specific Router issue fixed. The patch is on the way.

Again this issue is very specific with only one router type. So the general Wifi connectivity test can fail whereas you test connecting to networks in different security types and form. Generally it should work but unless routers have very specific firmware and as far as I know all our ISP routers comes with some sort of custom FW less the Google WiFi from SH

Ya, I know the patch is on the way... as I see SingTel reaching out to Samsung to clarify the issue and work to get a fix.

Just hope the patch does not cause other issue after solving one.

I still don't get it why they never fully test on the wireless router probably used by most people here.

So what is the actual issue, if you are allowed to tell? Or has it been mentioned already?

After sending my N8 to replace the front camera, I somehow feel that the screen touch sensitivity isn't as good. Furthermore I am not using ANY SP. Is this possible?
