Performance improvement compared to your i7-2600K? It's the same performance class just newer so I wouldn't expect much. To step up one class makes more sense.
So which one are you going to sell?

Ok lah. 8 frames per second faster in x264 2nd pass. Probably lower power consumption as well. My motherboard is a bit wonky, so might as well get a new system core. Also going to get a Platinum PSU, since my system is on 24/7. Power efficiency is the theme of my system. I'm looking forward to massive undervolting.

What do you mean which one I'm going to sell? I only have this system...

Aha, I thought you just bought a Haswell and that's why you wanted to sell your older rig. So which Haswell SKU will you buy and which board? I'm still undecided, I kind of don't really like the idea of Haswell coz I think the integrated GPU is a waste. The space could have been used for at least 2 more cores in the desktop version (for the same price of course). We got a new Socket but are still stuck with 4 cores...

Ya I agree. I also prefer that they gave us 6 cores, but then that will just eat into the E series, whatever that is supposed to be called. Intel's marketers got us by the balls. For me it's either MSI Z87-GD45 Gaming or ASRock Z87 Extreme 4. Slightly leaning towards the MSI due to the Killer LAN (although it might turn out to be snake oil). I condemned ASUS liao due to their lack of innovation as well as super ulu service center.

Also looking for my next PSU. I want a platinum but all the platinum PSUs too high wattage. I measure that my system's load power draw with my current system is typically 250W, so my optimum PSU wattage is 500W~.

Oh ya. Haswell SKU. Probably i7-4770 non K for me. The K processors do not implement the new Transactional Synchronization Extensions (TSX), which might be helpful for multithreaded workloads.

So far Asus SG only annoyed me by their unresponsiveness, they don't like to answer questions but at least they do lots of advertisement here. lol

Yeah, pretty annoying Intel always castrates their "k" models, that has been already the case with the former generation. If Intel wouldn't be so fast I wouldn't be their biggest fan.

Looks like the simplified Power Savings tab has been removed from the latest final BIOS, iirc it was present in the earlier test BIOS. Anyway, undervolting can still be achieved in using the other voltage settings.

Adaptive voltage setting is supposed to be the most power efficient way to control the voltages now.

Adaptive > Offset > Fixed/Override

i can't find any review that uses the newer revision of x264 encoder alongside the 4770 non-K

so hard to make an informed decision

Ya my concern is that their version of x264 doesn't have the AVX2 optimizations, which according to Dark Shikari is supposed to make a big difference.

Don't worry, since I'm upgrading I will run the benchmarks for you. Won't be so soon though, so maybe you might want to ask the folks at Doom9 too.

Does limited unlock for non-K procs still requires Z87 mobos?

Coz if Haswell is so thermal limited without delidding, there is no point getting K version.

Using educated guess, seems like we could only hit at most 4.2 or 4.3 with aftermarket air cooling, not talking about hydro cooling.

Which seems like not much vs limited unlock.

No matter how good the mobo can clock, the resultant performance is limited mainly by the CPU capability (heat wall) and the fixed number of cores it has and will ever have (max quad only).

Really got to see how competently Intel is going to spin IB-E next.

Finally seen one review which uses LinX with AVX, too many reviews are using the older Linpack without AVX resulting in nice looking higher overclocks...

Looks like they are stuck at 4.4GHz as well and just check out those load temps on angmo air with just 1.20V. Guess they did a heavier run with more RAM usage.

Has anyone seen a review using the newer versions of P95 Blend with AVX like what I had used?
