Hey all. Long time lurker, first time (sorta) poster.

I just got a natural tan belt from Aquila Fashions, the same one mikeeeey got (and posted about) some time back here: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?p=51937973&highlight=aquila#post51937973

Just thought I share some pictures

It's my first leather product in natural tan, and not a bad one at that. Very well-built, sturdy, nice hardware (liking the buckle especially), and also very good service on their end. It's a steal for it's price ($30) -- makes for a good first natural tan belt. Will definitely post more updates as it ages. :)

My only complaint is that it's a little too thin (8oz I guess?), but I'm sure one could always ask for a thicker one to be made. On the upside, it conforms and sits better on my jeans that my other thicker belts. Anyway, I would probably try for a 15oz version after this belt breaks in and I get bored with it. :s13:

how hard would it be to start leather crafting?

Well like RD say, you will need to take the 1st steps.

Actually the difficult part for leather crafting is more on the resources, tools, materials and supplies.

The fundamental basic for leathercrafting is very important, which is the KEY you have to build that will push you to the next level.

It very different from learn on how to drive, cycle or swimming, once you know them, you can just start a car and drive. Leathercrafting is something that you learn new things everyday.....

Let me share with you all what we will be rolling out soon, you can refer to the following which I have listed out (basic and intermediate)

Basic
Theory: Building Fundamental
Understanding leather, tools and accessories.
Dos & Don'ts

Cutting
Hand Stitch (lock stitch)
Cementing
Burnishing
You will learn to make simple items, sizing not exceeding B5 size, example, card holder, key fob, case, leather bracelet etc

Total there will be 10 items, in the workshop (duration not confirm) you will be able to make 3 items during the basic workshop.

Intermediate
Theory: Next Level Up
Understanding leather, tools and accessories. (extensive tools selection, leather selection)
Leather ounce, hardware, what to use and not to use

Advance cutting (free hand, shape cutting)
Hand Stitch (loop stitch)
Template Making
Design and Build
You will learn to make complicated items, Short, Mid, Long wallets, pouch, mobile cases, wallet rein etc

This is what we are currently planning, still polishing some more details.
Any comments?

^scasi, is there a need for the use of sewing machine when it comes to leathercrafting?

i understand that normal household sewing machines may not be able to handle the thickness of the leather and the stitching as well. but if there's a need to use sewing machines in any point of leathercrafting, it may be useful to learn the basics of leather sewing using sewing machines.

what do you think?

Well, sewing machine is part of the tools, but believe me, it the hardest tools you will have to pick up. You will need the machine once you are going commercial, or big items.

House hold machine are for garment, the needles and threading is different, it will not be able to take above 3ounce leather (basic requirement to stitch leather is 2 pieces of 2oz)

Also sewing machine have limitation in creation work, and when you use machine, your work and design must altered in order to be able to use a machine.

Hand stitch have no boundaries, a lot of major company are still using hand stitch in certain area of the products. Example of RM http://www.redmoon-shop.jp/shopdetail/003001000088/
You can see that the signature peace maker logo and the concho patch are hand stitch.

I dun suggest beginner to use machine, and machine normally is not in any of the workshop module.
