Although subtly tucked on the 2nd storey of Arab Street, Obbi Good Label store has become one of most happening hangout for the denimheads and leather lovers. Almost every Friday night, crowds will gather at Obbi Good Label Store, like its a meeting place and the start of their weekend chill-out programmes.
It has since become a lifestyle for people of the same likes.

as much as i appreciate the photos posted, there is just too much self promotion in this thread. many questions asked by people who are interested more about leather are getting ignored. experts here are more interested in getting across what they want to promote rather than helping interested peeps here. i see numerous questions that should be easily answered by experts here gone unnoticed.

i came in here to know more, browse through 20 pages of self promotion and thought that's it. this thread is 30% genuine 70% advertisement. hwz should start charging money. This is absurd.

This totally true. I agree with you 100%. Leather crafting is an art form that is meant to be shared so that it will be preserved. People are interested and want to learn more about this art form and create creative things out of it. But mostly i see here is advertising about how good they are and what variety of things they have to sell to you.

That I agree with u. But those leather "experts" or craftsmen are actually busy people and don't check this thread often. U can't expect them to be going around forums and solving questions right? They are not obliged to do that. In truth, they are based on other forums, why not check out indigoroots.com to check out their leather thread. I believe that forum is more active and can solve your questions in a quicker time with enthusiastic members readily around. And nope I don't own that forum, I just find that forum interesting and is a better place for denim and leather addicts :)

thanks torres, yes we are very busy overseeing so many forum through out.
You can have all the question post here after registration, we will have the right people to reply to you. Link

We do not have intention to self promote, but it rarely any leather craft company that can spend so many time in forum. And whenever it does, we only can show what we have made.

And trust me, the moment we reply the question, we will get all other question flooding in, and knowledge will not be learn here with information we share. It not that you can read or see from youtube, and you become a leather crafts man.

I started this thread in 2009, took me 3 years to contribute what I have made, and only a regular 2 to 3 person update their work. We actually has been discussing should we not update here anymore? But heck, just post it here to show case to prevent die out.

hereandnow, i know you have ask me about tools and leather supplies, if i recall, you are already buying from the biggest supplier tandy which also my main source of supply.

meanwhile, please advice, should I stop contributing here?

I think you should just contribute and ignore what they said.

For those who do not like it, OGL did not force you all to buy it what. They just want to show case their leather products.

You can choose to purchase from them or not. :)

Since I started posting here, I have replied several PMs from people interested in the craft. As they have directed their questions to me via PM, nobody sees the long replies I have typed out to answer their questions.

However, please note that I learnt my craft through alot of trial and error and heartache. That is not to say because of that, I would not share basic knowledge.

People has sent me 1-liner questions, which takes several paragraphs to answer. It is easy to ask, but the person answering have to take alot of effort to get the idea across in words.

After an exchange of 2-3 PMs, for some, I stopped answering, because from their subsequent questions, they show that they did not think through my previous replies, and apply the thought. Rather, they expect me to layout the steps for them, step 1 do this, step 2 do that... which I don't think I am obliged to do so.

Secondly, after so much effort to explain, I realise some are just asking for fun, and in the end, may or may not decide to do leather crafting. Who is going to recover my lost time answering all these PMs?

Lastly, if I don't know how to put an idea across in words, I rather not answer at all. No idea and start from fresh is better than if I give a wrong idea and he goes down the wrong road.

And like the latest question about "pelle", frankly speaking I have no idea what the hell is that.

And if anyone knows where to buy concho that is both cheap and good and nice, I'd like to know as well.

That sounds very noble and I salute you if you really mean it.

Because the only people I know who ask for sharing is those who needs it.

Once they have learnt it, the idea of "leather crafting is an art that needs to be shared" seems to die off immediately.

Which is why right from the start, I depended on no one. So I don't owe it to anyone.

I think bulk of us really appreciate the knowledge shared here. So please do continue to contribute to the wonderful thread.

Frankly if they are deemed as going out of hand, we have moderators who will communicate and advise them. Thus far, I think its very fair to say that the contributors has been genuine in sharing the art of leather crafting with the forum members.

I lurk and I read. I believe most of us like to learn and read more, though with no intention of starting leather crafting but with more knowledge of the craft, we will contribute as consumers of finely crafted leather products instead = )

personally i feel that leather craft is really just about self-exploration and its really unique to the individual persuing it. more or less its just like any other craft (be it sculpting drawing and other forms of fine art). so, if one really is very interested in knowing the "burning secrets or tips related to leather", doesn't it make sene one would definitely find out from all sources? be it going to down to a local leather shop like OGL, 310 woodlands or asking any leather craftmen here politely and humbly? or visit or finding out forums that cater to the leather craft and related?
I guess its just like finding a job, one doesnt expect the job to find its way to person.

But i really got to say that craftsmen are definitely busy with their craft (if not why will they be called craftsmen right?) honestly speaking perfecting this craft is neither easy or extremely difficult, its a really complicated mix of luck, passion, hard work and perseverance and bunch of other factors. even with that sheer amount of hard work (what do u expect from handmade?), there are things that a craftmen can never answer you, like for example "how long do u think this wallet/bag will last?" or "wow, i am paying so much, can it last longer than a branded item?" ....we can never know. conversely, if there's someone for a type of leather or particulary obscure brand, honestly we can't possibly know it for sure. i can safely say leather crafsmen not equal to leather bible (there isn't one anyway).

lastly, yes there's a 'selfish' element in crafting. cannot possibly tell u everything from sources of leather right down to the details of selling/marketing. its just like asking your boss, "hey can u tell me how to become u and take over this company?"...unless one has the balls to do that and one day succeed in that...but then again i wont want to elaborate more, its a grey area, and its sensitive.

all in all, if one really wants to know, one will find out no matter what, for anything else there's google right? and there something called "life experience" go all out to try and makes mistakes and learn!

i dont claim i know everything, so take this post with a humble pinch of salt.
