Hi, would like to ask where to get products to care for such untreated raw leather stuff. I recentlt bought a bag from thailand, its like the untreated leather bags i see in this thread. I would like to get stuff to water protect n condition the bag to prevent stains. Can anyone pls help me, i tried to read thru the threads here, but have not found the answer. Pls help, thanks.

I don't have the water shield so I can't comment on its usefulness. But for me, Obenauf lp seems to shield it pretty well from water.

For me, I use it on my boots. So I scrub it first, apply Obenauf, leave it for a day, light scrub the next day.

LP is pretty good for most leather items. Water shield likewise can be used after LP is applied, for better protection against the rain. It forms a layer of 'shield', such that water will 'form beads' and can be dusted off by hand or cloth, instead of seeping through pores of leathers. Water shield can be used on items such as canvas too, thus its great for bags and shoes primarily, since they are prone to get wet and not easily washed like clothes.

Water shield is great, but then again, its not water-proof, more like water-resistant. So, getting drenched in the rain would cause your items to get wet no matter what. I was caught once in a storm overseas, some items in my bag were wet, but it was 'not that bad', since only the ones affected were in the front compartment and not in the inner one.

Yeah, you can. You can tell that there are many people in this forum vouching for its effectiveness.

Fyi, most leathers are already treated in some way or another by leather tanneries. However, they require additional 'help' in terms of elemental protection (rain, moist, humidity)

You can get them locally too.

Btw, there's Water Shield, LP, Leather Oil and Leather Cleaner. This is almost their full range of products.

(2) Main Traders has a smaller range of leather, Mr. Su is very patient and if he had the time he would be willing to teach you a thing or 2. They are also stocked with dyes and glues and other leather care products. They sell leather per foot.

no idea where to get the tools locally. i only know daiso sells the puncher. i only saw one size though. other items, i bought from physical shops in hk and taiwan. posted the links a few pages back.

That's true. There are only so many that there is in Singapore.

Recently, I headed down to the 3 warehouses mentioned in this thread and I had a great time chatting (and buying) with the staff. They told me there used to be a quite a number of leather suppliers in Singapore, but one by one they closed down and moved away (some to Malaysia and other Asian countries). Also, most customers these days are hobbyists and old timers (in these trades of leather crafting for long). Thus, they mostly ship them overseas (better, since such customers are corporate entities buying in large qty).

Honestly, these 3 mentioned already have great number of stocks, so I guess I would go back for more when the need arises.

On a side note, it seems that speaking Chinese (and some of my broken Hokkien) to them seem to break the ice (rather than English at first when asking them some technical jargon).
