My nexus 5 started showing static, and the lower half of the screen jumps up and down, apparently it needs a LCD replacement. I enquired at a shop, t will cost SGD220 to repair here.

I was thinking of I should send it back to Japan for service, the shipping cost to and fro should cost lesser than that. But i'm not sure what the procedure is for that either?

Any opinions on this guys?

Just call Japan or USA google (if after Japan's office hours).

Tell them your problem. They will initiate a RMA if required and email you the details.

In your case, Japan google will handle your case. The forms are in Japanese but the agent will explain to you what each line means.

Once you "received" your phone, which should be to some forwarder service in Japan you used. You have 21 days to return your faulty device (singpost, fedex, etc).

Your received phone is actually a new purchase in google play store where they will put an authorization hold on the price of the device (link will be given by them). Basically that price you temporary paid is frozen and will be return back when they get your faulty phone (prevent cheaters).

Yes! Nexus is not dead!

Motorola makes solid build phones.

Don't care the size, it's the best phone ever!

Maybe they'll be expanding the Nexus line to include a phablet, rather than replacing the Nexus 5? So it will be a more complete set of form factor for developers to work on, tablet, phablet, and phone. Wasn't there supposed to be a yellow Nexus 5? lol. They have edited the page already though. haha.

Am I the only one who will be content with a refreshed Nexus 5? Exact same design and screen size, but I would improve just 3 aspects:

1) Significantly bigger battery
2) Slightly better camera
3) Thinner bezels.

Don't really care for the rumoured 5.9" monster. I find the Nexus 5's size to be just perfect.

I would have love a slightly better display too. 1080p still, but better in quality. Not sure if it's just colour calibration or what, but the Nexus 5's display never really looked that great to me. At least not when you compare to LG G2, or the HTC One M7/M8. :/

I find that the stock display calibration indeed does leave something to be desired, especially for one who prefers "punchier" colours. However, if you're on franco kernel, you can tweak the colour calibration. I managed to get the display on my Nexus 5 to be on the same levels as the G2. :)

A slight detour....

I have been using my N5 (from Japan) since late Nov 2013. Love it - clean Android KK, great screen, fast and smooth, and manageable battery life.

When the LG G3 was launched a month ago, I have been tempted to get one to replace my ageing N5. I have procrastinated - trying to convince myself why I should give up my trusty and great working N5. Then a couple of weeks ago I bought the Samsung Gear Live (from Japan) that runs Google Wear. Although still buggy and rough, it is still nice to have Google Now on my wrist. And the Gear Live pairs nicely with my N5. Then a new question popped up - will the Gear Live pair equally well with the LG G3? Theorectically yes, but most probably not. So, I am going to hang on to my N5!:)

It will pair just fine. Android Wear doesn't care the device is from which manufacturer - it just uses the notification listener function introduced in Android 4.3. This isn't a case of product incompatibility like Samsung's previous watch products.

Hi Guys, my N5 suffered quite a bit of a fall and the screen is severely damaged. Does anyone know where I can get the screen replaced here in SG? I asked BreakfixNow (220sgd) and IRepair (170sgd) and was wondering if there are cheaper alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

Bought the screen online for US $94 and replaced it myself after watching YouTube how to replace screen or dissemble the phone video.

Nexus 5 RMA Japan

Anyone can share the rma process for japan nexus 5 set? How to proceed?

You need to contact google japan to inform them your device is faulty.
Then ask for rma address and send back to them in full box.

That's what i did previously
Email to googleplay-support@google.com, don't bother calling the hotline, it is link to USA Google, they can't process your Jap N5.

Just state your N5 is jap version and is faulty and need replacement,
they will reply you with a link to re-purchase a replacement unit.
*Just re-purchase, they will not charge you if you return the faulty unit ( Best use Credit instead of Debit Card, as they will hold the N5 amount if you use debit, while credit only hold your Credit Balance).

They will also ask you to send back to their Japanese RMA Store.
This is the Address in Japanese

nexus5 日本RMAセンター
〒143-0001 東京都大田区東海1-3-6
プロロジスパーク大田 カンタムソリューションズ内

If i remember correctly the address is Quantium Solution or something

which the english address is this

Quantium Solutions (Japan) Inc.
Prologis Park Tokyo-Ohta
1-3-6 Tokai Ohta-ku Tokyo
143-000 JAPAN

Just go to Singpost pay for the postage delivery charge and send it back.
Previously i paid $20+ to ship back, that was Dec 2013.
**Your replacement set will be send to your designated forwarder address, and you need to pay the forwarding fee

Hope this help ;)

Anyone know where to get N5 Screen Protector at west side, any recommendation :)
