Ok, I sorta figured out what's wrong.. Look at your homescreen,

If your mic icon is "full" (see pic below) then "ok google" will work.

If your mic icon is "hollow", then it will not work.

In my case the hollow mic is caused by a recently installed app I think, when I boot the phone in safe mode "ok google" works fine.

Now to isolate that problematic app.... :s22::s22:

I got 2 US Version Nexus 5, on my 12G, Singtel Value (Equivalent) plan SIM, plug into phone..work out of box.

Another Singtel SIM, on the obsolete classic plan + 1 GB data. during setup, which took long time to activate the mobile plan, then skipping the step. after full setup ( including OTA patching of new FW). After setup complete, the phone could not connect to 3G..it just connected without data.

Plugging the same SIM(Classic plan) back to Nexus 4, data/vioce works perfectly..

Pulling my hair..dont know what went wrong, calling Singtel..there are trying to reset the line for me..keeping finger crossed on whether resetting the line will make it work. I just want normal 3G to work

Trying another M1 3G mobile broadband SIM..it works out of box as well.

Hi, did you manage to get the 3G on your SIM (Classic Plan) to work with the N5? I just received my N5 earlier and I also having the exact problem as you. Thanks

Hi all,

Would like to check with fellow forumers if your phone number is displayed under Settings >About Phone > Status?

Mine is not and I suspect this is why my mobile data does not work.

Also my SIM card is very old and I am on Singtel Classic Plan with separate BBOM plan. Though it still works on my N4, hahaha.

Thanks in advance for any comments /advice

those using 3G sim cards, try setting yr Preferred network type to 3G instead of LTE in settings

displaying phone number doesn't work in SG. It works with US numbers (personally tested on another phone)

Press and hold power button till you see the shutdown menu.

Then tap and hold the shutdown option for a few sec, another menu should appear and ask whether you want to reboot in Safe Mode.

Wow, this is new to me. Thanks!

is it true that singapore's mobile signals are more battery consuming?
threads on xda shows much better battery life or screen on time.
any pros here able to shed some light on this?

anything more than 2 hrs screen on time on Mobile signal is very good.
