OnePlus used to hv price advantage over other flagships that makes it attractive being called the "flagship killer" but op5 upgrades over op3t is not worth the price increase imo. I think it's due to the costly sd835 but Xiaomi still managed to keep the low price on the mi6 makes me wonder why OnePlus can't?

Xiaomi's Mi6 is still priced around the same as the OP5 6 gb version right..? In that case I would rather take the OP5.

8XX can get you sony XZP and HTC U11 local sets with local warranty. For U11 it even comes with 6G ram leh. Android also cannot use 8G ram fully plus cam of Op5 lose to the other flagships
Not to mention bo water proof, no QHD, no micros card. Mlmlwm :s22:

This is just my very long 0.2cents, not meant to offend any OP fans here.

I think on paper the phone looks good even though it doesn't do anything really groundbreaking (other than the 1 model for global market which I hope we'll see more of), and they often share components (sometimes design too) with Oppo. After all they are all under the same parent company BBK Electronics. So I totally agree with that rant video posted a while back about OnePlus pretending to never settle, pretending to be a small company incapable of incorporating all the latest technology like thin bezels, tall display, best camera tech, Ip68, etc.

But that's just their marketing. It's a bit annoying, but I'm here for the shiny new toys, not how they sell the toys. Those that have been following the mobile industry know all these already. The whole brand was built on "how much can we compromise to reduce the price of the phone while keeping flagship processor". It was never about groundbreaking tech, R&D, or innovation. Most of the innovation are really from Oppo, like VOOC charging, and even the "new" dual camera setup is almost the same as the Oppo R11 Plus.

I honestly don't feel like the price hike from the OnePlus 3T was completely justified even though the processor is the latest, and there is a crazy amount of RAM inside. It's the exact same formula they used for the OnePlus 3/3T, and the camera that they really boast, ended up to be the same old thing with the OP3T's camera. Basically good, but not great, with noticeable compromises here and there.

I do think that from what i've seen in reviews, the phone is good. And i think a lot of us inclusing myself will like the phone for what it is. But the thing is as the price creeps higher, while not breaking much new grounds, is it still as worth it for us to go to the trouble of buying export units from resellers, or trying to ship in it ourselves incurring GT, shipping, etc? Like in singapore, XZP, U11, S8, G6 are all selling at way below RRP from street shops as mentioned above.

Sure buying from Qoo10 with coupon actually brings the price down to a more reasonable price, and pretty much one of the cheapest and best performing SD835 phone around. But on principle, the salty part of me don't want to give them business.

Hear me out.

By buying into the hype, buying into the export units, it's like us telling OP not to bother with the SG market at all. We'll still buy them anyway even if you don't want to work for our business. If i'm OP, there is zero reason for me to enter the market. If people are willing to sacrifice warranty, buying from reseller, why bother? I still earn by selling the phone, and I don't have to do the after sale service.

I'm sure if they want to, they can just piggy back on Oppo's local support network. Sell their phones through Oppo. But i guess they want a clear separation, and keep pretending to be a small startup company.

On the other hand, we have smaller companies like HTC, who is struggling but still trying hard to keep selling and supporting their phones here in Singapore despite the tiny market. Like talking about all these I have to really give a hat tip to HTC, and you know, even BlackBerry which has plans to launch the KEYone here officially.

It's just a bit sad considering I think they did a great job with the OP3/3T, and I still think they have one of the best Android skins around.

Comlor selling it the cheapest right now, 639 for 6 gb version, $5 shipping fee. I might just take the plunge... I think the 6 gb version is still priced competitively, and there's really no need for 8 gb ram imo.

Ahh, change from 7+ ah, then will be more worthwhile liao. Cause both no micros expansion. you do lose out on audio, waterproofing bah

Dual camera both will have but op5 bokeh still not as good as ip7+ now (will improve with updates eventually)

Biggest win will be the price imo. In anywise, deciding factor will be if you are already tied on the apple ecosystem or not.

I got 8+128 cause I use a lot of memory... But now stuck on qoo10 payment processing page  help?

how to apply the $100 coupon? not very familiar with qoo10, any experts can sic? thanks! wa the 8gb one really ex sia $800+ my god

Well said. I won't consider myself as a oneplus fan but I respect them a lot for what they have done so far.
Totally agree with you on your rant and I will give this phone a miss too

But if they sell it thru oppo, wouldn't it eat into oppo's sale? Since R9S with 625 already cost $679 RRP, doubt R11 is gonna cost less than that and of the OP and R11 cost the same, would anyone still get the R11 with only a 660 and almost the same specs for camera and display? And if they priced it too high, it might be priced similarly to phones like U11 and S8 and it might affect the sales again. Of course, this is just my speculation. I don't mean anything bad for oppo or OP.

Haha. I will probably still buy it nonetheless to test the phone and review. I think the only OnePlus device I skipped was the OP2. Haha. Other than that all have.

Agree with many of your points but I feel many will give the OP5 "one last shot"

One thing that resonates with me is it's speed. With 8gb ram and very good camera hardware perhaps future software updates can "save" this phone.

And there's the speed, S8 even brand new has Micro lag, it's noticeable even when u switch menus. I doubt there will be another phone on the current market which will perform as smoothly and quickly.

Lastly the form factor. It's oneplus' slimmest phone so far.

But Yea they've really lost a big differentiator with the price jack

Yeah. Probably. But their R series is quite overpriced to begin with? I know it's meant to be like premium mid range devices, but for the specs, china company, not really worth it. Maybe the added cost is for the 2 years warranty, and their recent aggressive expansion here. Haha.

If they sell at flagship price, it'll be hard for them to survive too. But with the pricing increasing with each gen, it's getting harder and harder to overlook its compromises. Unless they can really innovate, and make something that is really no compromise.

But if they sell it thru oppo, wouldn't it eat into oppo's sale? Haha. I think a lot of people already love this phone. Not just a "one last shot". Most reviews are saying it's still worth the price hike.

Mainly is like you said, the speed. I haven't used the OP5 obviously but the OP3/3T was an amazingly speedy phone. I have no doubt the OP5 will be the same.

Actually the Xperia XZP and HTC U11 are really smooth too though, so I'll be curious to see if OP5 can really be smoother. Samsung is still Samsung. Hahaha.

Despite the rant I still think it's a pretty decent phone. Haha. Now just contemplating on when to pull the trigger. Was kinda hoping Expansys would start selling before the $100 coupon end. :p

Pixel and U11 both met the 2 points you brought out in terms of speed and camera.

S8 best selling points are the great hardware and features rich software. The battery life is also the best comparing to phones of the same or even bigger battery capacity. The micro lag can be quite annoying at times but the phone just seems to hv the complete package

Actually having used a Sony before, they are guilty like the Samsungs where when a new phone comes out, the software update slows the phone and makes it buggy

Yeah, they have pretty much the most complete package around for a while now. Always pack in tons of stuff with all the High end and latest components. Hard to fight samsung these days. The only thing is really just whether you can swallow their software or not. Haha.
