Hey guys, for some reason my data usage has been pretty high lately and when I checked, I found that one of the apps with the highest data is "Android OS" and "Google Play Store".

Anyone know what Android OS is and why it's using data? And not sure why Google Play Store would be using data too since I have it set to only update with wifi available.

Can anyone advise?

TIA!

Haha it just looks high to me as I've never noticed them until recently.

Android OS alone has used 350 to 450MB of data per month according to my data cycle for the last 3months. And as of now, 5days into my data cycle, it has already used 80MB of data. (At my lowest data usage in July with 1.75GB, Android OS used 350MB out of it.)

As for Google Play Store (which, as I said before, I have set to only update when there is wifi), 3months ago it used 45MB, then 70MB, then 110MB, and now 5days into the cycle, it's already at 50MB.

I have a 4GB data limit which might make these numbers seem inconsequential, but I would like to know what's happening because I nearly crossed my data limit last cycle and I rather it not be because of some things I don't even have control over, lol.

Any ideas? =:p

Haha!:s13: TGIF high!

Anyway, for your reference. This is mine with Google PlayStore autoupdate regardless of WiFi or Data connection.

Cycle from 12th September up to today:

Google Play Store: 309MB

Android OS: 35.33MB

So, yours looks normal to me! Not that high likes on Friday and Saturday night! :s22:

Why is yours opposite of mine? Sigh.. I don't think it's normal. Especially when I don't even know what Android OS is supposed to be (asides from the obvious) and why it's eating my data.

I googled and looks like others are complaining of the same issue. From 80MB and 5days of data on 23rd September, currently I'm at 370MB right now with 14 more days to the end of my cycle.

Brought my phone to a Samsung store and the staff didn't know what was wrong either, only know how to keep saying "wah it's not supposed to be so high." :s13:

The staff won't know la, think only Google and the people who code Android can answer you, if not you have to send them log keke. That's wat i did the last time i contacted Google.

So far mine is quite consistent with my data usage so i'm not raising the red flag yet. Especially since i sync a lot of things except Gmail but that's cos Gmail sync drain a lot of my battery the last time, which is weird since it's suppose to be a push mail.

I'm hoping to avoid that.... So annoying having to set all my preferences again. In fact sometimes I think default setting is more draining on data/battery than customised settings. (Case in point, FB's settings)

One day and 25MB extra data usage. I didn't even really use my phone yesterday zzz. :(

Haha I did, didn't seem to stop the "growth". Today it's at 415MB. If only my bank account grows so fast also. :s13:

Liddat! Factory reset it once and for all lah....=:p

But still cannot guarantee that your "money" doesn't grow fast in your Samsung bank account! :D
