if its rear and you put the phone back on the table then the sound is muffled.

Last time I put my note 1 facing up on my bed, phone ring, cannot hear if I am in kitchen.... that's why I prefer speaker not at the back, at least at the bottom like my note 3 now

Well they probably added it there to pipe the interest with no promise of delivery/collection, hoping some kum gong one will hoot at $1300.
