Osa is owned by Essilor
They sell lenses to labs. Not to shops
A lot of the unbranded lenses might be supplied by Osa but if your optician tells you the lens is from osa you should ask them where they ordered the lenses from

Ofcos optician wont tell me where they order fm just say its osa lenses. If osa sells lenses to labs then i suppose shops have to send the specs for lab to edge rather than edge at the shops? That will explain why OSA lenses are problematic recent times.

I guess zeiss labs are better?

Osa manufacture lenses. Zeiss deals with Optical retailers Different market
You're comparing an apple to an orange. No one's better than the other.
That's like comparing corn syrup and Coca-Cola
You're not supposed to drink corn syrup although it's added into cola

It doesn't even make sense why the name Osa is mentioned by whoever sold anything to you. :s22:

Osa is not a commercial brand. They sell lenses too labs as lenses labs sell. While the lenses are "Osa lebses" they are not supposed to be sold as such

does your eyesight degree has a bearing on the price of your lens?

I was quoted 360 for hoya 1.67 lens :(

Possible reasons why you were quoted a higher price:

1) The lenses have a stock power range. If your power is out of the range (too high power, too high astigmatism), it is a special order and can be more expensive. However the range for 1.60 and 1.67 tend to be rather large and inclusive.

2) The lenses come in different types - spherical, aspheric, front and back aspheric, different coatings (as mentioned by another member), etc. The "1.67" is simply the index (how dense or thin the lenses are) so it could be a different series.

3) Chop carrot head.

Tips for everyone:

Please find a shop that you can rely on - trust your instincts, see if the staff honestly explain things to you or try to hide something, when in doubt walk out and back in later and ask the other staff to see if the prices are the same or if one staff simply over-quote to put money in own pocket, ask for prices to be itemised instead of only giving the final price which can include mysterious charges, etc.

Going to replace my lenses soon, anyone here have calligraphy lens by ILT? Are they good as compare to Jazz as currently I am having Jazz lenses. I be making progressive and transition 1.67...any thoughts or comments whether I should go for calligraphy lenses instead of the usual branded ones.

Any promotion for hoya Lens?

Many retailers come up with promotions during the year-end sales period - wait till closer to Christmas. :)

........that's the original plan they planned for :o then there came a violent end :s22: surprised he wasn't arrested

Progressive lenses comfort is usually depends on personal preference. If your current pair of lenses are serving you well then safest bet would be to use the same brand / design / series of lenses. Changing to a different brand will need some getting used to.

The coating for branded lenses are usually better and longer lasting if you take care of them (don't drop or scratch), but if you change your spectacles regularly then it might not be that much worth the price difference.

Hope that helps.

Yes, Chinatown one and Jurong Point one is under the same management.

Also related to Pearl's Visioncare (Beach Road, Bedok, Kovan).

Then are zeiss lenses better to be cut in their zeiss lanmbs than cut in the retail shops?

So are OSA lenses cut in their own labs only or can they be supplied to retail shops for their own cutting?

Osa is a lens manufacturer. They make lenses and sell them.
So labs buy the lenses. Some finished some semi finished.
Shops buy from labs.
So (consumers)no one orders Osa lenses. They place an order and if Osa specs matches what you want

like for example

1. you make a pair of glasses -2.00 1.56hmc a basic lenses

2.The shop decides whether your lenses come or they send the frame up

3.if example your frame gets sent to Kv. They may or may not use Osa lenses to grind into your glasses
3.1 the optical shop calls and places an order for the lenses and a pair of -2.00 1.56 hmc gets sent over ( I do not know of any joker who actually calls as asks" I want to order a pair of Osa lenses " most don't know or care where the lenses come from.

Cutting the lenses in house is rarely done for better standards. Most of the time it's to save costs. You pay a lab to cut your lenses or you buy a machine and learn to cut yourself.
On rare cases where the opticians actually does it for quality control.. This person is likely a very difficult person to work with.
Like the people you work with who insists their staples must face a certain direction for better gripping
