Hi all, thank you for the great discussion.

I've recently started wearing my glasses more as my eyes seemed to have developed some sensitivity to contacts.

I'm looking to change from my current Owndays glasses as it is quite scratched and uncomfortable (nose bridge and eye strain after prolonged use).

I'm 33 years old
High myopia (700-800 left eye, 900 right eye with around 80-100 astig).
Use PC/Phone quite a lot throughout the day

Looking at either going to a trusted local optician (Pasir Ris or Woodlands/Yishun area?) or does anyone have prior experience buying from SmartBuyGlasses online? Their prices look quite attractive.

Hmmm, if it’s at Pasir Ris, will Simei be convenient?

You can consider eyes 2 eyes at Simei mrt. I know of someone there who is quite proficient and will be able to help you!

Just Seiko itself,

Blue label is the basic ones, their better series are charmant XL, charmant Z, charmant line art.

Yes to the legs/Temples too.

Went to a local heartland shop and found the Seiko titanium series a bit "uncle" in their design.

Then the Charmant ones are all having very narrow/small lens area.

What about Matsuda "IP" titanium frames? How are they?

They actually do not lose out to single vision...
The distortion at the sides are lesser than a progressive so it’s really comfortable. However once you hit about 45 onwards, and your lao hua/presbyopia/reading power increases above the +1.50 mark. The anti fatigue lenses will not work as well as it used too...

If I'm 3X, should I get single vision or anti-fatigue? Does anti-fatigue come in HvLL coatings? Do you mean before 45YO, people should get anti-fatigue instead of single vision?

Is there a Hoya Sync 3 Pro? What does the "Pro" entails?

...The downside to anti fatigue is that there is a limit to the addition/power reduction at the bottom which currently stands at +1.35(Hoya sync 3)...

Why is this a downside?

Hey, great, would love his contact.

Any recommendations for lenses/frames for around 200-300?
I prefer tortoise shell round glasses and hopefully PC lenses as I use my PC all day

Hi. Can someone please recommend a good shop (in terms of service and price) in Bishan/AMK/TPY or is there a highly rated shop anywhere else that I should visit? Need to get a pair of progressive lens. Many thanks!

I used to patronise Grand Optical @ Toa Payoh Central before I had my lasik. Good service and reasonable pricing. The contact lenses are also slightly cheaper than other optical shops.

Probably there are too many optical shops at Toa Payoh Central area, you can really get good deals from any of them.

Those optical shops located at Bishan are slightly more expensive.

Hi,

Am looking at getting a new pair of lenses done as I have gotten my own frame. Is there a good prescription shop near cantonment/queensway area that charges reasonably?

Thanks.

I came across this forum and was surprised there is one so active for spectacles. Kuddos. I am looking for a reputable shop to replace my lens that is nearly 4 years old. I stay in buangkok, and I know some bro is also asking for any recommendation in sengkang/punggol. I am not sure these two areas have much options. How about hougang or maybe places abit further to recommend?

I am currently using Hoya (it's a transition + progressive + blue control) but I don't now the series. The funny thing is, I brought my specs to two different shop today to check if they know my series and both of them gave me different answers, very confidentially. One assured me I am using some premium Hoya, cus can see the logo with their machine and one told me I am using the mid/entry series. So yeah, talk about confidence (or the lack of it). So, would like some good recommendation. One shop also told me Hoya having promotion (by Hoya) while the other says there is no such promotion 😂.

Much appreciated on any advices.

On another query, I would like to ask if anyone can recommend any particular shop that carries a wider range of Porsche design frames for me to have a look and try on (cus it may look very nice online or in pictures but looks and feel totally different when you put it on). I have been to a few shops (I.e., including the one in Holland village and also bras basah) but understandably, no shops will carry more than a few series (and the prices for the same model also differs). Most of them will have to check with the supplier which can take weeks or with a deposit paid.

Much appreciated if any one can have any recommendation. I have always done my specs in Malaysia but I guess it's not practical or possible now. Thank you.

Hi, anyone have any feedback for Mimeo at Marina Square and their prices for their lens if I have my own frame to use?

Or any other places that you all can recommend to make lens? Thanks.

Did they Mention the name of the series? Any idea roughly how much you paid for them? And your prescription too?

Entry level: dynamic summit(1)
Dynamic Premium(2)
Mid Tier:Lifestyle balansis(1)
Lifestyle V+(2)
Premium Tier:Mystyle profile
Mystyle V+

Depending on which you are talking about,

Promo currently is if you pick Progressive lens (1), free upgrade to (2). However, Premium tier is not included.

Next promo, if you buy Sensity(hoya version of photochromatic lenses or in another brand Transitions, they will upgrade free(optional) to Sensity Dark(turn dark even in Car), Or sensity Shine(mirror Coat Transition lenses).

There is still afew more, but i'm not at work to check. Off-hand i can think of these few.

Edit: Certain shops do not really sell/support Hoya thus they dont have that promo likewise for Zeiss or Essilor or so, thus don't be surprise some shops have the promo and others no.
Hope this helps!

Hi guys

I've recently discovered this forum and tbh a bit paiseh to ask for help as my first post on this forum, sorry for that!

But as a long time spectacle wearer and honestly someone who has never thought to look elsewhere besides the neighbourhood market for spectacle shops, I wanted to hear some of your advice for a person with my degree - Myopia 8.75 both eyes and Astig - CYL 6.00 both eyes (last i had them checked)

Is there a shop / lens you guys would recommend for my degree?

Thanks in advance!
