Wouldn’t be near zero but probably -1.25 or -1.50 as it progress to the reading zone(bottom of lens).

Thanks again. My current prescription is about -3.75. There might be some temple tightening at the end of the day. Age is 50+. So I guess your recommendation is to start off with progressive lenses?

Since I can read books without glasses, would the near-field degree for my progressive lenses be about zero?

Ive been lurking here for awhile and am deciding on getting a new pair of specs
Any shops to recommend in the north or how about the place u r at?
I feel confident with you recommending
Thanks !

Just to clarify some doubts, just because lenses are released later than other lenses, doesnt means its the best/exclusive.

Exclusives lenses are lenses that uses certain devices like essilor xclusive(visual office 2), Hoya mystyle V+ needs a personalised survey and measurements, Zeiss Iscription w/ Iprofiler.

But not all of us needs the best products in the market. Simple ones does the job too. Sometimes it's just placebo that if we get the best product, we get the best vision/clarity. Machines and all does help but it doesnt mean someone with machine can prescribe better lenses than shop that doesnt. It all comes with the experience of the practitioner.

If you cant swim, dont blame swimming trunks for being too big.

Please dont get influenced by words we see all around.

E.g. People get recommended to Jamco, First Contact lens etc etc, but do you much recommendation around to Capitol optics, Videre, Spec hut and such?

Small shops sometimes outperform big shops or big name shop.

Keep in mind that this is a forum so one user input doesnt reflect the whole market user inputs.

Cheers everyone!

Do You mean certified EN 166?

Yup. And take note your lenses will be a bit more expensive due to the curve protective coverage nature of safety glasses. they have to use special curve lenses to fit the frame. :)

Oh, will Thomson area be fine? I would suggest either first contact lens or eyewear optics at Thomson Plaza. If needed I can give you the name of either of the person to look for.

Something can be done, get your practitioner to fix it. I believe your practitioner at foptics can help you with that.even if person face slant, also can be adjusted. If ear 1 high 1 Low as I mentioned in earlier post, it’s one of the most common adjustment to do.

Just need the skills which even I am still learning.

Generally yes, still has its benefits. But every eye is different so we would usually prefer giving advice after we do the eye testing :)

You really want to use 1.74 index for -4.00+ prescription? (It’s really overkill)

1.74
...
I would recommend 1.60 or at max 1.67
...

Hi, in the end, due to the size of the new frame I chose, i.e. slightly bigger than my existing frame, the optician even said choose 1.74 also may not get the same thinness as my existing lens.

Anyways is Sync 3 Pro counted as a semi-customised lens? I ordered my lens around 5th Sep, & even at that point in time the shop says it will take at least till 15th before I can collect...

Btw, you know the optician readings? Example:
Sph-4.25, Cyl-2.25 AX70?

I know Sph is 近视 & Cyl is 散光, but what’s AX?

Yup, if you have a bigger frame, generally will have thicker lens.
It is pretty customised - Sync 3 Pro. Pretty good lens. Generally around that timeframe..

AX is axis. it is the angle of the astigmatism.

That’s great that you got a sync 3 pro. Yes, depending on your face broadness, if no choice then have to use bigger frame.

But always rmb, bigger frames doesn’t give you a wider and clearer field of field in terms of Progressives or antifatigue

Just asking. I went to the NgeeAnn Polytechnic Optemtry center website but it said no more consultations available because of Covid-19 .

For the rest of the shops how does the procedure of making an appointment go due to phase 2.

Cause I have 16 days of leave left but due to work requirements need to book the leave rather in advance.

Also any shops I can go to that's experienced in diagnosis of keratoconus + long sightedness. I do have high astigmatism as well. Or am I better off making Appointment at SNEC because I did my keratoconus operation on the left eye there in 2009 but the rest of the care since 2011 I have been going to NPOC yearly for checkup .

Did my checkup last year oct 13 at NPOC had a bit of long sightedness at 0.75 but didn't make the long sightedness specs.

Walk in are fine, but making appt is still recommended.

You can to places like KJ optometrists(plaza sing), Jamco(Katong shopping center), eyewear optics(Thomson plaza), first contact lens(Thomson plaza), mr eyewear(West Mall).

Hi Everyone,

Any comments on the Zeiss Duravision Blueprotect lenses? Are the blueprotect just a coating layer that may peel off?

Nope. More likely the multicoat will peel off rather than the blue protect.

Zeiss lenses generally are great.
