Hi Gangsterkia,

Which lens model would you recommend for someone who has presbyopia about 1.25? Mainly to use for reading and computer work. My long distance viewing is okay, corrected by lasik.
I tried wearing those cheap brands, always ditching them cos they have me headaches, and adjustment issues. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the delayed response. I believe it’s Hoya sensity(photochromatic) , 1.67 index with full control(antiblue and antibacterial).
In general, it is a good lens with good multi coat.

Oh I see, +1.25 should be too low for you and you might find yourself tilting your chin up or pushing your glasses higher..

I suggest going for progressives as the lenses can support your presbyopia which should be about +2.00-+2.25. You are already used to a +1.25 thus progressives should not be an issue for you.

Edit: if it’s mainly computer and near work, you can consider office lenses. But if you intend to go around, dining, shopping etc and need to look at near.. then progressives will still be the most optimal option. But if you don’t mind spending, then one progressive for day to day usage and one office lens for in-office usage. Hoya has a promo whereby your office lenses will be 50% off if you purchase their products(in this case, progressives)

Oh wow, mystyle v+ 1.74. That’s almost the highest tier lenses, one more above is myself but mystyle v+ is already very good.

Hey there,
Nope, you are given a discount too. Definitely not overcharged! It cost more as firstly it’s high index 1.67 next to add on the sensity(photochromatic) coat(mirror version) which will add up to that cost.

Hi Gangsterkia, thanks for keeping this thread alive, I've been browsing this thread after coming across it and found it to be very informative.

Today I walked past a shop and decided to get an estimation because I saw the Oakley glasses have those more 'wraparound' kind of style which I wanted for many years.

The shop was selling Zeiss lens and the person was showing me a whole bunch of Zeiss range and asking me if I wanted a higher refractive index one because it will be clearer, but I have no idea how much clearer or whether the cost can be justifiable, he took out a big file for Zeiss and show me the comparison which is like $410 for +1.5 index then $100 more for +1.6 (something along the lines I don't quite remember liao) and ask me which one I want and I really can't decide because there was nothing tangible for me to compare. He only kept say will clearer. I also wanted photochromatic lens and it was another added cost because I've been using that since the last pair of specs and like it a lot but it sounded like it was going to cost quite a fair bit of money so I decided to walk away and come home and consult you first .

I got my current Essilor lens with the plastic Nike frame for around 500+ last time (2018) and the salesman told me Essilor no longer so cheap because they raised prices, and Zeiss is now more competitive and value for money, but I didn't really take his words for it.

So can you kindly advice me for my requirements what sort of lens to get and how much am I expected to spend in the current market? My job is glue to computer whole day one, but I also do some sports that's why I prefer more wraparound options, but not sure how that affects my lens choice.

I live Hougang area, if maybe there is a shop that you recommend I could go there instead too, I don't mind travelling down!

I'm currently using Essilor Sv 1.6 TSA
The specs power is R -2.75 -3.00 X 5, L -2.50, -3.5 X 180, still quite clear maybe slight changes only.

Seems to me you were being quoted Zeiss Smartlife Asiana 1.5 index. It will be ''sharper''/more comfortable because ''Smartlife technology'' Zeiss lenses uses has afew factors that can enhance clarity e.g. eyetracking etc..
Your prescription cost more because of your astigmatism. Stock lenses usually can go up to -2.00 Astig. In your case its -3.00 on R and -3.50 on L thus you have to use what we termed RX lenses instead of stock lenses which cause the price to surge. I mean... Essilor still has lenses that cost cheaper than that for their Transition 8 series..just that for higher index lenses, definitely the price will cost more. Hoya do have lenses that you can consider too . They have a promo now where their nulux Trueform lenses have a free upgrade to their highest tier Single vision lenses Nulux V+. With Photochromatic lenses...1.5 index cost 420 and you get the free upgrade. Not a bad time to get it haha. Difference is that for Nulux V+, it can be customized to fit your curve/wrap oakley compared to other lenses whereby their base curvature maybe limited to 2/3?
