Yup prices for Japan & SG are different. If buy from Japan cheaper but not sure if the warranty is covered by the shop in SG.
I bought my frame in japan 4 years ago and do lenses in Singapore. I did have monthly maintenance by the Singapore shop without asking where i bought it. I even change the nose pad and screw without any cost.

Hi Experts,

I have some questions regarding Hoya progressive lens, Hoyalux iD MyStyle V+. I read and understand it is a customised lens for each individual user.

Let's say I buy this lenses from any optical shop, any idea if the sales person, will do the required tasks of measurement/adjustment as mentioned in the URL below? Read "Ensuring the best performance for what your patients want most" section. https://www.hoyavision.com/sg/vision-products/progressive-lenses/hoyalux-id-mystyle/
I do not wish to be shortchanged or paid a premium sum but not getting the features from the lenses.

My experience with both pair of progressive lens is, the sales person only marked my eye position on the lenses.(to be fair to them, the lenses I chose both times are not the customised types)

Next question, how do u rate Hoya Dynamic Premium or the Summit?

Thank you all, appreciate all responses :)

Hi!

Hoyalux iD MyStyle V+ is a lens that can be customised to fit a user's prescription, face + frame by incorporating additional data into making the lenses such as:
  • vertex distance
  • wrap angle
  • pantoscopic tilt
  • corridor height
  • inset
Experienced Progressive lens fitters can extract these data manually.
For an even more customised pair, you can consider Resonas X by Tokai

Hi Optometrist,

thanks for your reply.

do you mean those bullet points tasks can be done manually as mentioned by this sentence "Experienced Progressive lens fitters can extract these data manually". If yes, how does a user like me know? means ah, how can I know if the sales person is performing those tasks from his/her actions? (I am using Sales person cos I do not know if they are the trained optician or not)

Those tasks in points, are they the same as marking the eyes position by hand after being instructed to look at the finger of the sales person or done via machine?

Like I shared before, I don't wish to invest over $1K when the features not being incorporated into the lenses. :p
Not here to bash any shops

Wa hard to tell if they know their stuff or not. but to extract those data, it takes more than just a dot on the lens.
For me, 3 dots for different positions + observation of distance from eye to lens + head positioning + measure frame wrap + frame/face pantoscopic tilt.

But why do you need Hoyalux iD MyStyle V+? any issues with your current lenses? cos taking these parameters is just 1 aspect of a progressive lenses customization only

Because the sales there only recommend this brand and this range. His reasoning are:
1. More comfortable in terms of viewing area.
2. Coating last longer

He didn't even show me other brands or the hoya dynamic range.

Bro, thanks for your advice 🙏 🙌

Should one spend on frames or on lenses? (Or both?)

Also, I’m not the kind that babies my frames. I’ve played soccer and rugby with my OPs, eyevans, lindbergs (I just really don’t like wearing contacts) and have sometimes had the ball/contact square in my face. I do fall asleep with my glasses on occasionally when really tired.

Should I just get titanium frames?

I recently tried Owndays, thinking that I wouldn’t feel the difference. Is it in all the mind? It felt different (inferior) from even my shitty OPs.

Hi jeepers,

If you're rough with your spectacles, might wanna go for spectacles made using TR90/Ultem/Pei Engineering Plastic.

O****** lenses usually don't give as good clarity/sharness as compared to the major brands. 🤣 Especially more obvious at night or dim light condition.

Thanks for the demo via picture form. I’ll look into that! I used to use my old army frames for sports but didn’t bother replacing it after it broke.

As an optometrist, I’m sure you would recommend spending on lenses over frames?

I recently bought two pairs of OP-505s after retiring my last pair just before covid, but I haven’t decided what lenses I should get and if I should splurge.

May I ask where your shop is? Can pm me if it might potentially go against the forum rules of advertising or whatever.

Thanks again for your reply!

[Edit]: If you would indulge me, what brands would you recommend for TR90/Ultem/Pei Engineered Plastic frames? Thanks!

PMed

I'ld place more emphasis on lens clarity as it affects your daily visual task more. Multiple factors to consider when choosing which lenses to go for (E.g. current lens type/ Light transmissibility/ Glare reduction/ Blue Absorb function/ Photochromic/ New frame compatability)

Frame not necessarily get the branded ones, really down to overall comfort wearing them.

Brands using TR90/Ultem/Pei Engineered Plastic frames:
  • Flexi Premium
  • Ultrason by Pascale
  • Artz B
There might be other brands out there that claims to be using these materials but so far, we managed to find these 3 brands that can really twist as shown in picture.

My owndays i use at hm.

Got a new spec with zeiss lens n the porsche design frame. Honestly i feel having a expensive frame it makes me more careful in taking care of it instead of throwing it around.
And the lens sharpness difference is really big imo.
