Sg. First pair of lens that just keep peeling at the top corner closest to the nose Bridge.
In my first pair, only right lens affected. In this second pair, I just noticed my left lens also started peeling. The right lens already peeled a few months ago.

I have always been using 1.59 for my specs. Recently just make a rayban sunglasses with 1.59 also

Does 1.74 really make a difference if i am 325/350?

The best is it 1.74 with everything like progressive and blue lens included? Like this very expensive right but will the difference be felt at my level of prescription?

Hi @Optometrist @GANGSTERKIA

I paid $780 for Zeiss digital lens 1.66, which should be RRP of the smartlife digital individual, but the optician didn’t measure panto angle and only did marking of the focal point.

Did I get scam?
Smartlife individual should have taken those measurement, but since it was not taken, I was given the normal smart life instead?

Optometrist here working in a retail shop.
Frankly 1.74 is a bit overkill for -3.25/-3.50. I only absolutely recommend it for high prescriptions higher than -8.00.

A 1.59 polycarb or 1.6 high index lenses often is enough. If you want it to be even thinner (such as if your frame is a very thin metal or rimless), then you can consider 1.67 lenses to make them thinner. Apart from the thickness, I don’t think visually it’ll make much of a difference.

The material for 1.74 is also weaker compared to 1.6 or 1.67 index lenses, and can potentially cause more chromatic aberrations (like colour fringes) to be seen. Many brands can’t do transitions lenses in 1.74 index too.

Not necessarily. Zeiss prescriber here. Smartlife Digital Individual lenses can still be ordered without the pantoscopic angle indicated. Often, if no pantoscopic angle is written, the lab will give a default value of ~7 degrees, which is typical for most frames.

Unless your prescription is high, it may not make too much of a difference. If the pantoscopic tilt is too much, then we use it to compensate against the fitting height.

Hi. Regarding Zeiss progressive lens, may i know your thoughts/recommendations on the SmartLife PRO?
Specifically the Individual?
This seems to be the most expensive and highest tier for progressive lens.

Thank you for sharing!

Could you share what’s the difference between the smartlife digital individual and smartlife digital lens?
And if there are any differences in what measurements should be collected for both lenses?

Another optician mentioned that they are the same lenses, with difference being the measurement (panto tilt etc.) and customisation on how the frame sits on the face

If you have the budget for it, then the Zeiss Individual lenses are definitely one of the best in the market right now. It has an extremely wide distance and reading viewing areas, reducing the need for head turns and distortion areas.

Frankly the Smartlife Pro is really an optional upgrade over the regular Smartlife series. It just optimises your prescription further by taking into account your pupil size. The regular Smartlife Individual (non-pro) are already dam good by itself.

Yes the difference is mainly the customisation. For the regular Smartlife Digital lenses, apart from the prescription and focal points (pupil distance and fitting height), the rest of the values are based off default values which are calculated based on age.

For the Smartlife Digital Individual lenses, the practitioner can choose (above the prescription and focal points) individual patient frame details, such as pantoscopic tilt, vertex distance, bow angle and frame fit value (where the reading point starts from). In my opinion, it’s recommended if your frame is smaller or you have a higher ADD (reading power). I do think that it has slightly lesser distortion compared to the regular Smartlife Digital though.

Hi,

currently looking for a non-prescription photochromic lens for a semi rimless frame, currently have Zeiss or Hoya in mind:

Zeiss Photofusion Blue + Duravision Platinum
Hoya Sensity Oceanic Blue + HVLL/Full Control

Any significant pros and cons between the two? And anything I should look to add?

And should I be concerned with index? Lens material?

Zeiss Photofusion Blue lenses are a bit more towards “ocean blue” colour, while Hoya Sensity Blue are more of a “midnight blue” colour. If you want a more obvious blue colour for your transition lenses, I will recommend Zeiss. If you want something darker yet with a tinge of blue, then I will recommend Hoya lenses.

Generally both are really good lenses. The Hoya Full Control add on will be equivalent to Zeiss’ antiviral coating add on.

Because yours is 0 prescription, the index of the lenses are quite standard. Either 1.5 or 1.6. Since yours is a semi-rimless frames, most times the recommended index is 1.6 as the material is tougher and won’t chip if you accidentally like drop the lenses on/off the table etc. 1.5 index can be used for full frames.

I had my cataract done last year, and I have a pair of progressive lens made at an neighbourhood shop. It is not very good. I am planning to make a better lens, less distortion and a wider angle without turning the head too much.

From the hospital, my wearing presciption is +1.25 for both eyes, manifest refraction is +0.25 for both eyes, cylinder is -1 for right and -0.75 for left eye.

Is this SmartLife Digital lens a good choice? and how much it can cost me? Or do you have some other suggestions?
