Hi,
Understand its a spectacles thread, but I'm looking to replace prescription lenses for my sunglasses so I hope you guys can give me some directions.
I got a sunglass right now that is without prescriptions.

Wanting to go replace the current lens with prescription lens.
Will wish to retain the polarize and gradient color lens too.
Any recommendation for brand of lens and shop to go to?

Is AO still commonly available? I know Pentax quite common these days. Pls correct me if I'm wrong

Nope you are not wrong!

AO is still available if you ask the practitioner. Pentax is more commonly used as they are doing more promotions and price-wise is really affordable.

2) is Blue Light coating useful in protecting our eyes from electronic devices?

1) Yes, almost all lenses now have UV protection regardless of brand.
Of course there are lenses without but rarely sold..

2) Yes and no. It does reduce glare and eye strain but some people don't feel any difference or feel that it is not needed. More conclusive studies have yet to be done

3) all 3 are decent

My current is prevencia and never done progressive before.

That's a nice price for the lenses. But do note it comes without prevencia. If you want to add Prevencia in then the coating would be under the Crizal Coating and not the Sapphire coating(new one).

X does have but not as much as prevencia. However why i mentioned it was because if you are used to prevencia which is more yellow when looked through, then you might want to consider adding prevencia(Cons:Not using the better sapphire coating).

Yes, all essilor lenses have upgraded to the Sapphire coat unless requested by customer to use crizal(i rarely see any that does that).

Yes, everything is slightly tinted yellow and it's even more obvious when the phone goes into night mode. Best is the lens can filter the bad blue range yet I can see closer to true colour.

Hi Bro,

If you need clear lenses that filters HEV(blue) light as well, You might wanna consider progressive lenses with Tokai Lutina Material. Lutina is almost as clear as a normal lenses as it is the material that absorbs up to 94% HEV(blue) light as compared to reflecting ~30% by lenses using a blue coating.

I'm -8.00 /+1.5 on both sides, and was given a quote of 1.8k for the lens with 1.74 index, using the X design. I am wondering, is this a gimmick promo where it also price in the free pair of sun lenses, or indeed this is the price range for such high end lenses? I have never used progressive lenses before, so am sceptical if the cost- benefit ratio justifies it. My naive assumption was progressive lenses would cost in the range of hundreds, so this price range came as a surprise. Any advice from experienced user of the X- Design lenses ?

I have done some reviews and it's generally on the positive side.

Hi, Yes, Varilux is having this fantastic promotion whereby it is a really good deal especially for your case whereby the degree is so high. So if you purchse a 1.74 X design, your suntint lens will be the same design and index. its almost like 2 for the price of 1... of course you have to purchase the frames there as well.
If you never used progressives before, x design would be a very good starting lens.. Indeed, for people who are purchasing their first pair of progressives, the big price difference can be very distasteful. However, you are going to be wearing it 2/3 of the day and vision and vision comfort is very important so i always advice that it is a worthy investment.
IMHO, go for it won't regret. once you try x design, cant downgrade to cheaper lens... you will feel the difference..

$1.8k for a pair of lens is like so exoensive. Not worth it. I dont know about you but i definitely wont buy it. I also thought few hundreds dollars should be sufficient already. I think i rather dont see so clearly. My honest opinion.

1,74 and a good grade of lens. to me is worth it. I rather people treasure their sight and vision more

Indeed very expensive. I regretted not going for lasik when I was much younger. The amount of money spent cumulatively on specs is so much than the cost of lasik, with the added intangible inconvenience. But no doubt expensive, it's still important to wear something really comfortable since like what someone commented, one is spending at least 2/3 of time wearing it, akin to the fact that most would spend alot of money on a mattress. It also depends on one's occupation if it's a need or good to have.
