Uh, my current ones are cheap ones I got to get myself through NS. They're okay for what they are but are really scratched up and a deep cut on the left lens so I was thinking of replacing them.

Previously I using some Crizal lenses cuz my local optometrist carried them but after reading this thread for a bit, I see a lot of people commenting that they're not very good - they weren't very cheap either. So I'm at a loss for how to proceed.

Are your current lenses still serving you well?

Anything you are dissatisfied with your glasses?

But with an astigmatism of -6.00, your lenses must cost you at least 200-300? Is it confirmed your astigmatism/Shan Guang?

The new crizal sapphire coat is much better than the crizal uv forte(with fog ID).

My previous pair costs more just short of a grand I think HAHA. I've come to realise that the store's pricing is quite high... My astigmatism is very much confirmed - I use to go to KK when I was young for childhood lazy-eye, been wearing glasses ever since

Ah that makes sense.

I just wanted to make sure. Alright that’s really unfortunate about having amblyopia...
Usually for such high astigmatism I believe you are familiar with the price range. 200-300 is a very basic price range for the entry level. You probably have those 1.67-1.74 index lenses and further customised/RX to fit your degree range.

Honestly where you go, you might be looking at a similar price range unless you dm gg a step down at cheaper Brand’s, but it might compromise on your clarity. Some individuals might be fine whereas others not..

I Guess if you need recommendation, if you don’t mind travelling further, I have some places in mind!

Sure, I don't mind traveling a bit and would love to hear your recommendations. As for the price, so long as it's reasonable for a decent/good level of comfort, I don't think I need anything THAT high-end

Did they Mention the name of the series? Any idea roughly how much you paid for them? And your prescription too?.......

Thanks you. Wow, it's really informational and technical and to be honest, I don't know my specs details or those terms. I didn't even know there is so many types of transitions and the price (it was just a lump sum without breakdown for lens and frames). I had it done in Malaysia and they just check my eyes when I tell them I have this and that (i.e., can't see far clearly, can't see my fingernails when I am cutting it wearing specs, and glares when I drive at night etc etx). Paiseh, but I really don't remember much other than "not really high power" etc.

Yups, the Hoya promotion sounds just what one shop told me. Says mine is dynamic summit and right now promo is free upgrade to dynamic premium. Another shop told me mine is a premium tier, but didn't tell me what series. They showed me the Hoya catalogue on the premium prices (it was "blueish" series / tab) as opposed to "red" from the first shop. Just trying to figure which shop is correct. I just have to go more shops 😂, thus trying to find any reputable shops nearer to where I stay instead of going so far, unless really no choice or no option.

I also noted that different shops have different promotions and such. For example, on general I understand shops offers the standard XX% discounts on lens (some lesser) and generally YY% on frames.

If there is any other qns, feel free to ask here and we will all try to help!

Hey, don't worry or even have to say sorry. We are all in different fields haha.

Alright, the light blue/teal page is the above average tier which consists of Lifestyle Balansis and Lifestyle V+. The upgrade as i mentioned earlier on will start from balansis and free upgrade to the V+.

Your lenses which is the dynamic summit USED to be the mid tier when Hoya still had their ''OLD'' summit series lenses. They do not have it in their price list anymore but you can still order them. Thus now it has been ''relegated'' to the entry level. But if you ask me, i would say their dynamic series is already not too bad. Pretty comfortable already unless you have higher expectations.

I guess its a common ''secret'' that in retail, certain shops will sell more expensive and give more discount whereas certain places can sell cheaper but give less discount. In the end, my recommendation is to choose a shop which offers you the most comfortable experience, e.g. talking to their optician/optometrist and if you dont like them, you can always go somewhere else again. No obligations for sure.

Just let us know here if there is any other questions!

Does anyone know how Owndays premium progressives compares to Hoya basic progressives?

I honestly do not know how good are Owndays Premium lenses, but all i can say is, it depends on individual tolerance and subjective preference.

I've seen people saying owndays prog are perfect, no distortion, no blur And vice versa others that swear off it.

But if you ask me, my opinion stands the same as always,
''You pay for what you get'', Progressives have different tiers and it offers different clarity.

Others might argue that cheaper lenses might do the trick and no need to get the best, but i believe still that investing in a better lens will give you a comfortable 2-3++years for your life.

Zeiss also has a similar promo, though i think the zeiss one is better.

Any progressives lenses you purchase, it can be upgraded to 1 tier up FOC.

So zeiss progressives lenses are in ranking basic to highest

1)Precision Pure(Entry Level)
2)Precision PLus(asiana)
3)Precision Superb
4)Individual 2(Best)

So if you buy 1, they can upgrade to 2 for you.
If you buy 3, they can upgrade to 4 for you.

They also have other Promos e.g. Free Photofusion/photochromatic lenses with other purchase and more but.. i think can leave to the optician/optometrist to explain more to you guys too!

I used to wear zeiss asiana, so it will upgrade to 3, what is the price like, an estimate, how about hoya, if i want to change to hoya which one is comparable to Zeiss Asiana?

For Zeiss, To upgrade to 3(precision Superb) you need to pay for (2)Precision plus/Asiana.
1.5 index cost 750
1.6 index cost 950(before less).

Hoya to have something similar it should be Mystyle Profile.
1.5 800
1.6 1050
Some might wonder why i did not mention Lifestyle V+ and jump to Mystyle Profile, That is because Lifestyle V+ is not on par with Precision superb . So the next jump is to Mystyle Profile which is better than Precision Superb.
Again this is just based on my fitting experience, others might have differing opinion.

But just incase if you dont mind the drop in clarity and reading zone Field on view,

Within this period of time, if you were to get Lifestyle V+, i mentioned earlier there is a promo so

If you Buy Lifestyle Balansis
1.5 570
1.6 820

You would get an upgrade to lifestyle V+ FOC.

Hope its not too confusing to you. Again feel free to ask any Qns to Clarify.

Hi GANGSTERKIA

Thanks for your recommendations, I'll check them out!

Do you have any recommendations for lenses? I read that high index lenses causes more distortion at the sides? My use-case is pretty much indoors, staring at a computer screen / reading as I'm going to university soon.

I suggest you either use a double aspheric lens that will reduce the distortion significantly but only for distance or, anti fatigue lenses which will help in relaxing eye muscle when looking at near for Long hours BUT it’s not double aspheric.

Such lenses usually only Japanese lens Brands will have. Hoya Nulux EP series can go up to 1800 combined power/compound of astigmatism and myopia. Your compound power is 1400, 800 myopia 600 astig. Take note.

Anti-fatigue
But if you are looking for a lens that can help you to read more comfortably and using pc, maybe do a 1.74 crizal eyezen blue capture which will cost you 560(before less)

Zeiss also can, their digital lenses retails for
1.67 510.
1.74 660.

If price and thickness is a concern, go eyezen 1.74 crizal blue cap. If not, zeiss digital 1.74 and remember to cap the reading addition to +0.50 or max +0.75. We try not to go too high for that as you are not presbyopia yet.
