IMHO. Willing buyer. Willing seller. Nothing wrong. Already buy tag Heuer still bargain for what? Don't tell me Chiu go buy LV also go in bargain?

And the price is ok. Why u don't go for zeiss lens.

I am not saying there is anything wrong. I am merely asking whether it has been overpriced for the same frame and lens. I am buying a Tag Heuer doesn't mean I am willing to pay more for the same thing. If I can get the same LV cheaper in other countries as compared to Singapore then I might as well just get it in other countries. Do you get what I mean? It's not about the brand or how expensive the thing is. Just like if you go eat mee and the tauke charged you 5 dollars then you notice the tauke charge the other guy the same mee for only 3 dollars. How would you feel? So it's the same thing.

My power is quite high and Tokai is the only lens maker who has the highest 1.76 index lens. That's why I didn't go for Zeiss lens.

Hi everyone, I like to share with all of you a bad experience with this particular 'Everbright Optical Shop' at Bedok located near the Sheng Siong and Guardian pharmacy there.

Made a half-frame 'Hammer' specs there. After a few days wearing my new specs, one side of the lens fell off while I was wiping my specs. Apparently, he transparent wire that usually secures all half-frame specs broke. That's why the lens came off. So I went back to the shop to get it fixed.

The staff there admitted that the transparent wire was not placed properly in the groove of the lens which explained why the lens dropped. I can tell that the guy(the same guy) there was inexperienced as while fixing, he asked for help from his female colleague how to secure the wire. To make things worse, he bended my spec frames during the fixing process. So what I got was a 'pai kar' spectacles because when it was placed on the table, the specs didn't even rest parallel to the table. So, you all can guess how 'bended' it was. He initially returned the specs to me in that state w/o even bothering to straighten it. I told him off for bending my specs, then he finally adjusted it.

Just a few days ago which is about a month since I made the spectacles, I accidentally dropped my specs. Yes, it was my fault that I dropped my specs but it was not a hard fall. But to my horror, the left lens cracked. I'm not joking. So far, the 10+ pair of specs that I've owned before have undergone wear-and-tear (sports, accidental drops), but never once any of the lens cracked at all. Furthermore, this pair made from this shop just dropped once. A gentle drop to be exact. The lens that was prescribed to me was the 'crizal' lens which is still under the one-year warranty. So I gave the warranty card to the staff there thinking that I'm going to get a free lens repair since it's still under warrantly.

The male staff there (another guy) then questioned me why the lens cracked. I told him honestly that I dropped the specs. He told me that he's not going to help me get my lens repaired under the warrantly because he said that the warranty doesn't include cracks but only for scratches or only if the protective coating of the specs wear off. But my point is, there is no way that the lens would crack given that I dropped it once accidentally and seriously it was my brand-new pair, definitely I would treat it with as much care as possible? The guy kept on saying that it was my fault that I dropped it. There is a purpose why lens now are made with plastic to withstand such impact? Of course, I'm not talking about a much bigger impact like that of a hammer bashing the lens. I was so mad arguing with the guy that he told me "You are very loud". If I purposely damaged my specs, why didn't the frame break at all?

Finally, one of his female colleague and agreed with me that she is also surprised that the lens would crack like that and agreed to send it for repair. At least, she is really diplomatic about it but given the string of events regarding the repair of the specs, I will never ever make my next pair of specs from this "Everbright" optical anymore & I urge all of you to think twice before deciding to make any from there if you live around Bedok.

1st, the string broke could be due to it being too tight when they fix the lens, that's why it broke.

2nd, what index crizal lens did you get? if it's not 1.6 or higher, then it could crack (between the groove) or chip off on the edge if they are in a semi rimless frame which you got. Also, if the lens you got is 1.5 or 1.56 index and it's very thin due to low degree, it will also crack/chip easily at the edge. So in this case, the optician should advise you to get shatter proof lens or 1.6 index lens which is less prone to cracks or chip.

Experienced spectacle owner, can you help to comment on the price? If it is overpriced, I will want to complain when I collect the spectacle and ask for discount. Thanks!

how much does the price have to be off then consider overpriced ?

for the lens, I think it's bout there. as for the frame I got no comment. maybe you can go and check around.

also how high is your power?

can you tell us what kind of frame you have? is it rimless or half frame or full frame? what is your degree?

As for the price, I can only say you are not being overcharged. reasonable or not really up to individual.

Rimless frame, I don't really wear spec and not much experience with them but recent years getting old so have to wear them. These are my degrees at that time, to be honest, I don't know what they mean..maybe higher now?...

R - SPH -0.75 / CYL -0.25 / AXIS 95 ADD 1.50
L - SPH -1.00 / CYL -0.50 / AXIS 55 ADD 1.50

Your RX is pretty mild at that time, I suggest you have it tested again. Getting old may mean you also need reading glasses or progressives.

thanks! by any chance you know which is better? in terms of price.

well, one is at bras basah and other at ION.

rental overhead already a killer for the later one... so one would usually expects the price to be higher..

but i realise not all shops carry the same range of frame..so see heng suay or not.

that time i want to get a certain model of philippe starck eyewear ..went to most optical shops from central to the north east...end up still go back to the first shop i saw despite a lower discount .. cause that the only shop that have immediate stock...

so if ION have the frame model that u like..and the discount is decent. just get it. ;)

if that certain shop doesnt carry that model, cant we just ask the shop people to help order for us from the distributor? Does kwong shin has the newest oliver people's collection - the soloist? At the same time, i wish to try out their optical service.

im looking for round frames becos round lenses seem to be the thinnest among all the shapes?

ic!berlin/urban/Starck/silhouette frames all dont suit me becos the lens will come out thick due to my high power.

i have tried tagheuer/oakley/porsche/swiss flex & now im wondering what other good brands i have missed out on.

i dont like the rubber on both tagheuer/oakley & their craftsmanship are just so-so. For porsche, the nose bridge are designed too far apart & for swiss flex slips down the nose far too easily.

Any other brands to suggest?

Hi, looking to make a new pair of specs. Not too familiar with all the brands rattled off in this thread so far.

Any recommendations of a reliable shop to go to in the east / town? TIA
