Anyone knows which shop carry Oliver Peoples optics? Price range in SGD?

Can try haji lane. Normal optical shops rarely will stock on those kind of brands i think..:s8:

Anyone heard of Silhouette eyewear? Made in Austria. Last few weeks keep seeing the advert in Today newspaper.

Any users here?

Definitely very light. You can go to optical shops to try them out. Of course there are cheaper options.. See if you are brand conscious.

Checked Haji Lane's Define Happiness shop, dont carry...dunno got other stores? But most sld only carry 1-2 models of sunglasses only. No Optics frame. Checked local distributers is Just Eyes Optometrists in Suntec city. But not sure they do carry wide range? Also checked price pretty high..at least over $500 for a pair.

I'm going to Europe next month, will it be cheaper to get a new half frame spectacle there since the brands are designer brands?? Or should I just get it in Singapore?

Hi guys. I went to seng li queensway. I was recommended to a pair of bywp frame, which cost $420, by the guy. I was also recommended 1.67 hoya lens with sft coating, which cost $210. Together it costs $630.
1.67 SFT RRP from hoya is $350 (for stock lenses)
But I went over to Alexis Eyewear at Ngee Ann City, by Nanyang Optical.
I saw the price list brochure. The salesman quoted me 1.67 hoya sft lens at the rrp of $500.
Even if it's Rx lens, it shouldn't be $500. If i m not wrong, the $500 RRP is for 1.71 SFT stock lens. Are you looking at Hoya price list brochure or their own price list?
How did seng li managed to quote me at only $210?.
I saw that there are many grades of hoya lens on the pricelist, some are $200+ rrp, if i recall correctly.
maybe trying to slash price to compete with surrounding shops, or they trying to get rid of their stocks.
How do I know that seng li is giving me the real deal of hoya sft coating?
He claims that the he is giving me the hoya lens from Japan, not Hoya from KL or some other countries. Is this true?

There could be accompanying card to say it's SFT, or maybe not. If he gets his lenses from Hoya singapore, and hoya singapore gets their 1.67 SFT from japan, then it will be from JApan. otherwise it will be from KL or most likely thailand.

Thank you for your reply. I was looking at Hoya pricelist, if I am not wrong. I should have taken a picture of the the pricelist for verification. Thank you for your detailed reply to all my questions.

I found this picture from an earlier post. Does this authenticity card means it is from KL, since I see the word Malaysian Hoya? So I have to make sure that the card is from Singapore Hoya

Authencity card from Hoya!

Well, u can always buy from Ngee Ann City for $500 SFT to give yourself the piece of mind... SFT can be identified because of the unique colour. Do a search for Seannie's post on that.

Seng Li only carries stuff from the authorised distributor. They don't carry parallel import. Should be quite safe.

I am not related to Seng Li. Just a customer of them for the past 10 years.

Nah. I wouldn't want to pay their rental in Ngee Ann City.:s22:
Thanks for the reassurance in Seng Li.

Yes. I found Seannie's answer.
Seriuosly sft coating is v easy to tell just from its appearance & color, unlike normal kind of lens coating. Even nikon seemax coating has the same kind of cheap look as normal lens.

HOYA sft coating presents itself in a richer color tone. Even HVP coating color appearance doesnt have this kind of premium color look.

HOYA sft base color looks like green, but with an additional tint of yellow or dunnoe watever kind of color i just cant describe, it just looks damn diff. That is why its now my prime choice of lens.

actually no matter where the lens comes from, whether be it japan or msia or thailand it makes no difference cos its just factories in different locations. Most importantly its that ultimately if you ordered your lens in sg, very likely your lens are edged and mounted in sg lab. So most important is that you trust the sg lab to do your lens properly for you. Sg does not have any hoya factory anymore. Hoya has shifted their sg factory to KL. So the hoya in sg are actually the labs where they cut your lenses at the same time input your axis of your astig into them. They do not produce the lenses. So production of lenses dont happen in sg, if thats your concern.

Hoya lenses are rather expensive. Not sure whether the price is justified. You can post your lenses here and we can determine for you whether it is sft or hvp coating. Previously one guy actually posted his pair here and upon verification its only vp coating, in the end that guy went back to the shop & managed to request for an exchange of the real sft.

Actually i have a suspicion that different optical shops send their hoya lens to different hoya labs to do the edging, polishing & mounting. I went to those normal neighbourhood places to buy hoya lenses & discovered that their polishing work are not so good, but when i went to nanyang optical to buy i realise that the polishing work seem to be quite good. So i guess there are also advantages for paying them the extra for their rental i suppose?

Eyeglass Frames That Match Your Face Shape

For many of us, the most important aspect of choosing eyeglass frames is how they look on our face.

You could try on every pair of eyeglasses in the store to find out how each one looks, but narrowing down your choices in advance can save you a lot of time and aggravation. You simply need to determine your face shape and coloring, and understand which eyeglass frame styles and colors would look best on you.

Matching Eyeglass Frames to Face Shapes

You should consider three main points when choosing an eyeglass frame for your face shape:

1. Eyewear should repeat your personal best feature (such as a blue frame to match blue eyes).
2. The frame shape should contrast with your face shape.
3. The frame size should be in scale with your face size.

Also, while most faces are a combination of shapes and angles, there are seven basic face shapes: round, oval, oblong, base-down triangle, base-up triangle, diamond and square.

Here is a further description of these face shapes and which types of frames work best for each.

Round
A round face has curved lines with the width and length in the same proportions and no angles. To make a round face appear thinner and longer, try angular narrow eyeglass frames to lengthen the face, a clear bridge that widens the eyes, and frames that are wider than they are deep, such as a rectangular shape.

Oval
An oval face is considered to be the ideal shape because of its balanced proportions. To keep the oval's natural balance, look for eyeglass frames that are as wide as (or wider than) the broadest part of the face, or walnut-shaped frames that are not too deep or too narrow.

Oblong
An oblong face is longer than it is wide and has a long straight cheek line and sometimes a longish nose. To make an oblong face appear shorter and more balanced, try frames that have more depth than width, decorative or contrasting temples that add width to the face, or a low bridge to shorten the nose.

Base-Down Triangle
A base-down triangular face has a narrow forehead and widens at the cheek and chin areas. To add width and emphasize the narrow upper third of the face, try frames that are heavily accented with color and detailing on the top half or cat-eye shapes.

Base-Up Triangle
This face has a very wide top third and small bottom third. To minimize the width of the top of the face, try frames that are wider at the bottom, very light colors and materials and rimless frame styles (which have a light, airy effect because the lenses are simply held in place by a few screws, with no surrounding frame material).

Diamond
Diamond-shaped faces are narrow at the eye line and jawline, and have broad cheekbones that may be high and dramatic. This is the rarest face shape. To highlight the eyes and soften the cheekbones, try frames that have detailing or distinctive brow lines, or try rimless frames or oval and cat-eye shapes.

Square
A square face has a strong jaw line and a broad forehead, plus the width and length are in the same proportions. To make a square face look longer and soften the angles, try narrow frame styles, frames that have more width than depth, and narrow ovals.
