Hi Seannie,

I wanted to get cheaper hoya lens. I didn't like the thin frame at first cos it look so thin and fragile but bo bian still get it cos the shop's hoya lens is cheaper. The staff keep on saying don't worry, the frame is flexible. I regret getting this frame.

I went to try the linkskin frame at nanyang. it is very light and comfortable. but i sweat easily. will stainless steel change color if a person sweat easily? :s11:

sorry to hear tat, pal, seems my advice came too late. Those sales staff always tell you that "can lar, no problem, this can be adjusted, that can be adjusted, looks nice". Better don listen to them 100%. If you know that your lenses have always been thick, must remember that if the frame too thin, its not going to be able to hold steady, even if it is made of titanium.

Actually, didnt you notice that the stainless steel of linskin frame only applies to the frame front? The temple arms which actually touches your face & head are made of polymer (plastic). Another point for you to note is that if you have tried on linkskin frame you will notice that the side actually don touch your head at all, the shape is very curved, so only the back end of the temple tip grips around your head at the point just behind your ears (this is becos its design is similar to tagheuer / oakley etc with no hook at the back). As such, there is very least possibility of the colour getting peeled off when you sweat alot.

And i can tell you, by far, linkskin is the best fit i can find for myself at the moment. Tagheuer actually comes v close, but the only thing i don like abt tagheuer is its nosepad, which is not designed to perfection yet. Yes, they have changed to a softer silicon type which can bend, but still falls short of my expection. BUT if you like brand & style, you can consider tagheuer.

Hi,

Anyone been to City Square in JB recently, heard the whole shopping mall is under-going renovation. Need to know if the optical shop at level 2 and 1 is still around.

Also, are there any shops that sell Oakley frame in KSL City Mall?

Thanks alot!

If you know that they are undergoing renovation, then go there after they completed ard 2nd half of this year. The shops will be temporarily relocated to another place in citysquare if being affected. Those that not being affected or alrdy completed renovation sure will be ard. Oakley frames are sold everywhere, ofcos KSL city will not be spared by oakley's boss.

Nice checklist. however, not many consumers will take note of all that when buying a pair of spectacles.

A good optician/ optometrist, however, will check all the above and give appropriate advice regarding the fit to the consumers before getting them to part with their money.

A lot of opticians don't care as long as the consumer like the frame even though it doesn't fit well. Why i say don't care is because when the consumer has chosen a frame and the optician tells him/her that it doesn't fit her, the consumer might change his/her mind and not look for another frame....that means lost sale for the optician. :s8:

with competition so fierce, you think they will want to lose a sale ?

competition so fierce that even suppliers & labs are doing shoddy work. Nowadays not only frames are of sub-standard, even reputable frame & lens brand are not very concerned about giving 100% quality. Opticians likewise will still dispense out sub-standard lenses to their customers even if they checked & know that the product not 100% good. Some dont even check at all & just dispense to the customers. So, in this age of bochap & low morale ethnics, i suggest customers not to expect too much. Better still, do not know too much lest you get disgusted by what the harsh truth. They can charge you so much for a pair of frame & lens, whereas the cost price maybe just 10% of what you pay, yet they do not bother to do a good job for you anymore.

just made a new specs, degree is really high about 1200, 2.5 astig.

the lens really thick especially towards the side.

It is a plastic frame, i notice that what affects the thickness is the length of the lens/frame. I think it is about 53/54mm.. most plastic frames are about that size 50-55, unless it is rounded/oval then will be shorter.

I would like to know if I choose a smaller frame to fit in, say smaller/shorter by 1-2mm, how much less thick will it look?

Because the thickness/high myopia is making the eye look really small through the lens.

What other recommendations of frames do you have? brand/plastic/metal.. shape etc, maximum recommended length of the frame.

I actually like an angular plastic one, which is the one I picked at about 53/54mm, wonder if picking something 1-2mm shorter will be better aesthetically.

Many thanks.

Hi,

For your lens size (53/54mm) the smaller the better. each mm does affects the thickness of the final product.

For such a high prescription, u can try Tokai Bi-Asp 1.76.. one of the thinnest available in the market.. waiting time could be 3-4 weeks as they are made in japan. If their thickness can't make u happy, i doubt any other lens makers will be able to.

i really pity guys with degree so high as 1,200. The lens will be so thick regardless what lens u choose. And if ur head is broad even worse, you cant choose a smaller frame else it will not be comfy. Your lens will also be heavier than normal ple. Length of the frame is not the only decider factor, the shape plays a big part too. You can only go for ROUND shapes, the rounder the thinner. No No for angular frames cos sure sure thick. So the best choice is to go for Round plastic frames with thick rims that can cover up the thickness. I really feel sorry for you & all the best to you.

yea.. mine is 1.76, but not sure if it is Tokai or what, took about 2weeks to go test the specs but not ideal due to the size of the frame & lens, very obvious about the eye become small. and the thickness is obvious.

any good plastic brand to recommend? S$150-200+ range. not sure if got non-circular ones but lens length 50mm or less.

Because your power is low, lens will be thin.

Because it's Rimlon (half frame held by nylon string) lens too thin = fragile.

Recommended Polycarbonate lens (impact resistant) or 1.6 index lens for higher tensile strength.

Recommended for Polycarb = Hoya Pheonix Hilux design rrp $180. If too ex, at least get something like ILT polycard rrp $130. Normally Polycarb materials comes with 1 year warranty against hairline cracks or chip-offs. Not against scratches.

Or Hoya Stellify/Hilux 1.6 rrp $160

Hi guys. I went to seng li queensway. I was recommended to a pair of bywp frame, which cost $420, by the guy. I was also recommended 1.67 hoya lens with sft coating, which cost $210. Together it costs $630.

But I went over to Alexis Eyewear at Ngee Ann City, by Nanyang Optical.
I saw the price list brochure. The salesman quoted me 1.67 hoya sft lens at the rrp of $500.

How did seng li managed to quote me at only $210?.
I saw that there are many grades of hoya lens on the pricelist, some are $200+ rrp, if i recall correctly.

How do I know that seng li is giving me the real deal of hoya sft coating?
He claims that the he is giving me the hoya lens from Japan, not Hoya from KL or some other countries. Is this true?

Well, u can always buy from Ngee Ann City for $500 SFT to give yourself the piece of mind...:s13: SFT can be identified because of the unique colour. Do a search for Seannie's post on that.

Seng Li only carries stuff from the authorised distributor. They don't carry parallel import. Should be quite safe.

I am not related to Seng Li. Just a customer of them for the past 10 years. ;)
