Anyone knows if it's normal for pain to develop in the back of head when wearing plastic frames?

If there is pain at the back, it means that the temples on the glasses has not been adjusted properly. You can bring it back to the place you made your glasses from to re-adjust. Sometimes, even experienced optician may not be that good at adjusting frames, customers think is okay when they try on during collection but after a day or two of use, they find it either too tight or loose, nosepad not well adjusted etc.

Some type of plastic materials do not yield/ give as well as others, so they don't bend and accomodate and as a result undue pressure is added to part of the cranium when the glasses are worn. Grilamid and some advance polymers material can usually be more comfortable than zyl or less advanced plastic.

Actually most shops would oblige if you tell them to adjust for you, but it is not a good habit to bring it to a shop you are not a customer of.

Where to get lindberg specs for a better price?
duno nanyang optical or whichever branded shop..quote me $800/- for frame only.

http://www.lindberg.com/

:( :o :(

Lindbergs are around that pricing but you can get a decent amount of discount if you go to the right place.

Last evening I was at "The Eye Place" at Stamford House. I was trying on some Lindbergs but ended up getting a pair of Mykita's. They carry an extensive range of quality frames, from Theo, LaFont, Lindbergs, Mykita's, Cutler & Gross, Viktor & Rolfs, Alain Mikli's, Chromed Hearts, so on.

Total I spent was close to 1K. I must say the pricing is reasonable and not sky rocket unlike what Alexis, Optical88 or Nanyang Optical quoted. I also have to commend on their excellent customer service. You should go look for Collin and I'm sure you'll be pleased with his knowledge and expertise. Most opticians these days don't know nuts about their business so be sure to ask or do your own research before you buy.

Hey guys, not a regular poster here so i'll ask since this IS the right place.

Was thinking of getting a pair of frames from either http://www.popularglasses.com or http://www.framesdirect.com/ but was wondering if most, or if any specific shop in Singapore can make the frames? Many thanks in advance! :o

You mean make the lenses? Any shop can make the lens. As a B&M retailer, we tend to prefer if the customers not buy from our online competitors and we discourage our clients from purchasing online, even if the prices are cheaper, for a variety of reasons. What most shops do is that they charge a two tier pricing for lenses, cheaper sometimes by a lot more, if they take a frame and lens package from the shop. If a customer brings in his own frames, a higher price is charged for lenses unless the customer happens to be a regular.

At the end of the day, it is still a business. There are more overheads than an online shop but customers can try on alot of frames, sometimes what looks good in pictures online may not look good on you. Most optical shops provide free service/ cleaning/ adjustments and replacement nosepads, especially if you are their existing customer. With the increase in people buying frames elsewhere and having them fitted locally, a lot of my colleagues in the industry have had to cut back on servicing, and start to charge for screws and nosepads.

If you want to try online, just make sure you get the right size. Also, the type of frame you choose could and most likely will dictate the kind of lens the lab can fix. There is also a myriad of problems if the prescription lenses are fitted by an online merchant, even if the prescription is obtained locally.

i dont think the saving is worth the effort in buying the frame online. i was doing some calculation based on a pair of hugo boss spec i made recently.

the same pair will cost about USD$170 + shipping at USD35 a total of USD205, convert that to SGD with a conversative estimate at about 1.45 that will set me back about slighly less than S$300, UNLESS i can make the lens at less than $50. If not, there is virtually no savings at all.

Hence to me, it makes more sense to get it at the shop, u can try on different type of frames and see if what syle best suit ur face shape.

I will get it online if there is at least 30 - 40% savings after factoring all expenses.
