you shld look out for sales. just like the recent expo eyewears sales. Toa payoh central there have many optical shops. Its cheaper, perhaps due to the competition.

btw, where do you make ur lens. $80 for 1.67 high index quite cheap...

I made a pair of glasses (Ted Baker frame), which costs around 200+. (lens included)

Nothing to do, i surf the net and realise that overseas people are selling the exact frame around SG$40-$70 only. Imagine the profit margin one can make with those branded frames.

I think it is not a good idea to purchase frames online. 2 reasons:
1. You will not know if the frame fits you. Difficult to juge based on the pics.
2. With the shipping costs, not necessary to be cheaper as some shops do offer your a special package - i.e. frame with lens.

Some local shops do bring in a wide range of frames. Some very expensive ones from Italy, France, Japan. Shop around.

Well my bro just got back from korea and brought back several sunglasses. There were very vintage ala persol-like and look to be able to accomodate precription lenses. Was thinking of actually putting some lenses in to be worn as regular specs for certain outfits.

I've never actually had only lenses made, usually bought the frames as well. My last run-in with an optician regarding some non-standard service wasn't too pretty. I offered to pay to get an eyesight prescription done but he adamantly turned down saying he only offers the service to customers (frames + lenses). Not sure if this was just bad service attitude/policy though.

Anyway, i was looking at this due to the price angle. Thinking of getting 2-3 pairs fitted with lenses, more for aesthetic purposes, which isn't too cost effective if u had to factor in frame cost. Thought of doing this in the long run if its feasible?

Not really true. Pm u my contact which gives very good prices for lenses only, even better than those optical shops which I bought frames from.

please, stevick, i am working in the industry, some do, some don't. It depends but in general, retailers can play with the numbers better if u buy both from them.

Dont be so defensive. Dat is why u cant say its entirely true(thru from my past experiences). It all depends. Thats why I gave him my contact for him to compare.
