-Polycarbonate multi-coated lens-$90 (recommended for rimless)

-Photochromatic lens-$90 (Grey or Brown)

-Multi-coated Progressive lens with frame-$168 onwards

-Polarized lens (grey)-$140 (recommended for driving & water sports)

We will process the spectacle (Cut) and deliver back to your door step by Standard postage (FOC)

U guys think it is reasonable? can we use it as bench mark... to compare price of lens offered by other shop?
not want to start flame war, benchmark just serve as a guidline for comparison, not saying it give best price in SG.
Wow thanks for sharin!. This is perfect. Just sent them an email enquiry. Should be popping by soon :)

Hi bros,

Want to get designer glasses, but any recommendations for lower prices locally? Is it feasible to purchase from smartbuyglasses.com.sg or would it be better to purchase it locally?

Thanks!

If you want to get from online, make sure you check the measurements of your current frame. They usually have 3 sets of numbers separated by first a square and a dash. First is the lens width, followed by the bridge size and last is the temple length. Measurements are in mm.

E.g. 52  18 - 135

You want to choose a frame that is roughly similar to something that you have (assuming that you are happy with the fit of your current spectacles).

Note that if the lens width and height (seldom indicated) is larger than normal (54 or more), the lens will be thicker for a given lens index. If your myopia is very high, minimize the lens size if you possibly can. If you have a large head and high degree, choose a full rimmed or thicker frame.

Some newer frames like certain mykita and IC berlin are slightly curved and the lens size may be up to 58, which is fine as when you look in the front, they will appear like a sporty size 53. Also curved frames are a bit tricky to fit for someone with -5.0 or more diopter or in layman lingo 500 degrees. Some local shops will not have the capability to fit such frames properly.

Glad to be of service, Citiguy. However, as with before, I can only give general advice for people to proceed from.

Just to pre-empt any specific questions from others, I make it a point not to recommend specific shops, labs and brands etc, and I will never discuss pricing both openly and via PM as I think it is not something that is done in good taste if you are a professional objectively serving many shops. Pricing is something sensitive and many shops have their own policies and practices.

I think customer's should establish for themselves which shops they would like to give their money and business. Various eye conditions and financial budgets will lead to differing outcomes and a good optician will present options for you to choose.

If necessary, I can offer general advice on materials of lens, treatment options and general frame selections, not brands.

Is there a reason why Essilor's lenses cost more than other brands?

Was quoted $180 at Koolook for Essilor polycarbonate 1.58 multi coat. When I asked for a cheaper price, the salesgirl recommended another brand from Japan (never gave name) $120 exactly the same as the previous.

So why the $60 premium?

Would like to know, I made a pair of specs yesterday and just agreed to whatever they offered me because I am not too sure what type of lenses are available. Having briefly read this thread, realised there are so many types.

On the invoice, it stated CR39/HMC/W for the lenses degree 475/425. When I called up the shop this morning to enquire more because I am paying $180 for the lenses, the lady told me is ultra thin 1.67, with multi coat, uv protection, scratch-resistant and so on, with everything. I'm wondering is mine very expensive? And I thought CR39 is different from 1.67?

Just for your info...

RX version of Oakley should always get LOCAL version though it cost more. Lemme tell you why, cos there is "FREE" Life time replacement for the nose pad and temple sockets rubbers only for RX version. Those earpad and socket will cost about 20 - 30 dollars if you buy them seperately. Any one who uses oakley will tell you the socket rubbers sucks big time and you need to replace them every 3 - 6 mths as they will get tear on the side with use.

Informative thread :)

Am thinking of changing my specs. Thought of getting transiton lens this time, currently having photochromatic ones. But reading through the posts, seems that transition lens would not become suitably dark too. Think I will not go transition this time.

How about those frames with clip ons for sun shades? Are there a lot of variety for this sort of frames? The last time i went to fit my specs, only a few designs to choose from :(

Lastly, any website that gives tips/info on how to choose frames for different face shapes etc. ?
