Just bought a pair of Ray ban Asian fit plastic frame with Crizal A2 1.6 lenses at $250. Anyone knows what's the RRP for the Crizal lenses?

For the difference index of the lens, e.g. 1.6 and 1.67

i know 1.67 will be thinner and lighter and of course more expensive. What other difference will there be? Distortion?

A2 is the old coating.. crizal advance is the new one. RRP for 1.6 is $160.

A2 not very sure.

Higher tensile strength, lesser "rims" on the side of the lenses (i forgot the name) thus cosmetics apperance are better.

least distortion material is glass 1.5. worst is polycarbonate. any 1.6 or 1.67 are quite good in minimising distortion, thin and lighter.

there are not really a best lens. only the best for your prescription and complementing ur frame.

Thanks. Strangely the Crizal guarantee card says its Crizal Advanced, but the lens bag says A2.

Switched from Hoya 1.6 and the Crizal lenses seems slightly thicker. Hmm might be an optical illusion :s22:

To my limited knowledge, one should look at the lens packaging rather than the card given as the cards are generic ones where the shop could give to everyone.

Hi guys, choosing between crizal, zesis and hoya lens, which is a better choice? I've done some research, but it doesn't really help.

Yes.. look at lens packaging. But not always given by the lab. Some shops practices throwing it away rather than presenting to the customers because the lens packaging sometimes looks very torn and tattered.

1, Reputable stores will not try to cut cost and swith your lens to something else cheaper. Name is always too important to gamble on. how much more can they make by cheating u? and how much more is there to lose for them?

2, Lens thickness varies due to a few reasons:

-Lens Index (1.5 , 1.53, 1.56, 1.6, 1.67, 1.7, 1.74, 1.8 & 1.9)

-Frame's Lens size and shape (longer and bigger shape or more retangular, shows more thickness. Frames like Harry Potters shape minimize the lens thickness.)

3, Prescription for the glasses including Astigmatism.

4, Your own Pupil Distance (determines the position of each individual lens sitting in that particular frame)

Before a salesman recommends any frame, they must at least have choose it based on this 4 caterias. Thats how normally it works. (there are adnormal cases as well :D)

Imho, Hoya for value and quality.

Crizal for more of value.

Zeiss for slightly more quality.

If u have the money for crizal, u can add in a little for hoya.

If u have the money for zeiss, imo Nikon is a better choice.

Thats just if i am you. and i am just working for a big company and im a nobody. Sharing my views and opinions with others and improving myself.

Any shop near west or north (near woodlands) can make your crizal lens on the spot?

And can anyone recommend me which lens should I go for? Looking for thin and quality lens. (300-400 degree per side)
Budget $200.

u can try hoya or crizal 1.6 index.. pricing from 160 to 200.

if urgent, most shops will recommend crizal. if wan quality better abit, i would get hoya.

Without transistions, Nikon seecoat 1.6 is pretty high end for lens. $248.

If u getting deringer(any size of the 2), nikon seecoat 1.67 will look better. $328.

If transistions, Hoya Transistions 1.6 cost about $360-$380.

All oakley sold in singapore are controlled price. which ties to the warrenty provided. If price is lower than RRP(even for 10c), warrenty will be void. All frames comes with free change of nosepads and earsocks life time(will also be void if your oakley is bought with a discounted price).

Source is from Larrikin, oakley Distro in singapore.

In your experience or feedback, usually, based on general usage, how long does hoya lens last? lifespan of the lens before ageing, multi-coating peeling etc occurs & affects the clarity & vision of the hoya lens?

Based on own usage, budget lens usually last between 4 months to one year, max also about 1yr+. Based on hearsay, AO lens also last abt 1yr+

How about hoya standard? 3 years?

Another question for you. Since you are working in a big optical chain store, are your shop's nikon/hoya RX special ordered lenses made in Japan or in other parts of asia? And for these custom-made-in-japan lenses are the edging done in japan as well? Or only the lenses are made in japan/asia ex-japan afterwich they are shipped to local factories for edging & mounting of the lenses?
