No one really talks about Tokai lens here?? How's their reputation and coating?

Don't do Tokai much myself.

Very expensive, takes very long time to get lenses done.

Craftmenship wise is good but not impressive.

Lens quality and colouring is good but not impressive too.

Main thing is they are able to do almost all sorts of High base curve Sunglass lenses. Some with polarized, some with Photochromatic.

Means to say, they can make good sunglass lenses for high price and long time. Alternative is Nikon SeeStyle. Takes 2-3 weeks, No Polarized.

ya i believe it shouldnt be that wonderful though...i myself is a noob..so just asking because is relatively cheaper for the 1.74 range

btw, do you guys know whats the cheapest range of transistion lens for 500R 500L degree?

looking to get another spec with transistion lens though

If u want super cheap, ILT brand. Very Very cheap but poor quality. Should be korea/china lenses mainly used in small neighbourhood shops.

If u want relatively cheap, i suggest Crizal or hoya and hoya being in the first option for its slightly higher quality.

Generally, Quality = Price
High Quality = High Price

If not those derps who use their heart and effort for High quality stuffs are getting paid like other low quality products' dudes.. u think they won't go on a strike?

So i can conclude that 1.74 will have abit difference on the thickness for metal plate right

Leaning more towards 1.74 since the frame by itself is quite ex.

When u said hoya 1.67 whats the model u r mentioning?

i agree that hoya lenses are of good quality.

But i dont agree tat high prices necessarily or definitely equates to high quality.

This depends on consumers' discretionary spending.

The Optician or Sales guy didnt told u anything about that?

It doesnt mean ur lenses are gone. If u take care of it from now on, it may still last u for 2 years.

2 years?!?@# thats pretty short period of time.. u mean once the lens touches soap, the coating starts to peel off immediately & unnoticeably, bit by bit? Based on your calculation, 1% of my lens coating is gone alry.

Just to share my experience, i notice rings or lines of color reflections (slightly darker shaed than the coating color) on my lenses when im wearing them on my face & i tilt them against the light i can see these "rings" or "lines". Im not sure how many ple have actually notice before becos i suppose rarely ple have noticed. I myself only noticed it v recently. And its not against all backdrop of lighting you can notice such color "stains". Wonder what are they & whether caused by the manufacturing process or the chemicals in the soap?

Sometimes u need soap. Cuz u duno the what substances stucked on to the lenses.

Btw Crizal is a good lens, but not the premium in the market.

i dont believe in crizal, i have a friend who works in crizal lab. Any ideas who better way to remove these stubborn stains other than soap?

Most of the Hoya lens you got in singapore are either made in Malaysia or thailand. only some lenses are made in Japan.

there should not be patches or scratches on the polished surface. they could be polished marks or polishing is not thorough enough. different lens material will also have different level of shine when polished.

polishing can be done manually or by the machine. if done manually, the level of shine can be controlled. however if done automatically by machines (usually in the same machine that does the cutting), the look will not be as good as done by hand.

the lens will not chip easily during polishing.

as for when is the lens groove being cut, it depends on how it's done. nowadays they have machines that does the grooving and polishing in the same machine. if the grooving is done manually, manual polishing is usually done after the grooving.

if you find that the polishing is not good, go back and ask them to give it more shine. :)

from wat u say, i think they could be polished marks or polishing is not thorough enough. The level of shine is v good enuf alry. The shine looks diff from my other pairs of lenses. Its sort of like crystalized kind of shine. Its just the marks that look like scratches if you look closely.

So do you mean tat machine polish will not be as thorough as manual, as such will produce such kind of marks? Manual polishing will not see this kind of marks? Or the same?

So these marks are actually not critical or harmful to the lenses?

Just wondering, which lens that impresses you on all categories: craftmenship, lens quality and colouring?

I have been using diluted dish-washing liquid to wash my hoya lens for a few years already. The lens still look fine? :)

Thats true. High prices will reach a certain point where any higher price means overkill.

Coz average u will need to change lenses 1.5-2 years.

Haha, sorry, what i meant was at least another 2 years.

There's no formula for u to count the number of days left..

For your rings and stains, its pretty hard 2 imagine. Try to include a picture or u can ask ur optician about the stains.

Actually no. Remove stains u can try alcohol or acetone but very not advisible for consumers to do so. Bring it to your optician and ask them to clean for u is the best.

it's not always 1 company do the best job. Sometimes Essilor does good jobs on their progressive lenses.

At times Nikon and Hoya too.

Personally, colouring wise Hoya is quite good. Sometimes colouring also has got to do with the Optician who ordered the lenses for u.

I believe in Hoya and Nikon more.

That said, my old glasses is Crizal Azio 1.67 Transistions 6.

Current glasses is Carl Zeiss 1.67 PhotoFusion.

and honestly i'm not very happy with them. I made Hoya and Nikon for my family members by the way.

My next lens would either be Hoya Sphercial 1.67 Transistions or Nikon Seecoat 1.67(their transistions very ex. and i'm saving up for a watch =X)
