As promised, the courier delivered my specs today, a quick review. The one with a 1.74 index lens. I gotta say, to Seannie, you were right about the 1.74, with my prescription, all I can notice was about a 1mm or so difference between the thickness of my past 1.67 lens and this new 1.74 lens.

The korean lens are surprisingly very well made. Initially I had thought of going with just getting a pair of nice frames, then bringing it to one of the local shops to have lens fitted for them. However, the price offered by the chinese retailers were too good to resist. I paid only about 80 SGD to have 1.74 index lens fitted into them.

More about the lens, they look just as clear and sharp as about all the other lens I had. Single aspherical, reflection coated, anti UV coated, anti scratch. Ordered and cut exact to my prescription that I provided. Been comparing with my other daily spectacles and apart from the slight lens-pupil distance difference, I dont notice any difference in visual clarity.

I got to speak to the chinese optometrist that made my spectacles, he did affirm that with my prescription, there is also gonna be minimal thickness difference between a 1.67 and a 1.74 lens. Lesson learnt, go for 1.67 from now on.

A picture of my newly made specs from China. Love it!

Hi people.

Was quoted $200 for hoya 1.6 single vision lens (SFT coating). Is this price good? Would appreciate if there is any recommendation for shops from which I can get a better deal.

Both my left and right eye is approximately 450 degree with 25 astig. Axis around 90 for both as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I got it at a rather 'spoil-market' price lol. 30 bucks for frames, 80 bucks for lens. Couriered to me at another about 5 bucks.

chanzhf, mind sharing where you got it from?

I got it off taobao. Its a chinese e-commerce website, very much like ebay/amazon of china.

Generally, despite a positive first time lens order experience from China, I would not recommend anyone to dive into it readily. Prices for the domestic market are definitely cheaper compared to SG, but quality wise, can sometimes have room for improvement. Communication is another issue. I actually was half expecting a screwed up lens order but was pleasantly surprised though.

Will recommend peeps to stick to the local shops or JB/Malaysia if ordering spectacles online is too daunting a task.

Hi,

Anyone have experience with Essilor's optifog lenses? Does it really work? Also, anyone have recommendations on light frames that provides a professional look? Had used ICBerlin and Oakley Transitor but thinking of changing...

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I have been wearing specs for many years but I have not really gone to a professional shop, always going to neighbourhood shop. My main concern is where can I find a shop that can help me to find the right shape of specs for my face shape?

Very general question.. u need to walk around and find..

nobody knows what designs u prefer.. so better to go big big shops with lots of collections and start from there.

Single aspherical, reflection coated, anti UV coated, anti scratch.

Just to share with you.. Anti-Reflection Coating have difference in grades. UV coating have difference in total Percentage UVA and B filtered.

There's no Anti-Scratch coating in the world. Best is Scratch Resistance. And of course, they have different grades to them.

Value wise, yours is the cheapest any Singaporean can get.

That price ok la.. iirc $180 for Spherical design.. so $200 should be the Asphercial design.

Depends on frame, sometimes Spherical designs turns out to be thicker, BUT better to compliment the frame [proven to my eyes a few times, latest is a pair of Tag Heuer Trends rimless i dispensed to 1 of my customer]

Optifog works. Trade off is it comes WITHOUT Crizal coating. Meaning no Hydrophobic. It just comes with normal Multi Coat.

Ihmo, i'd rather spend on lenses like Zeiss or Hoya. But thats just me.

Light frames can look at Silhouette. Viktor and Rolf some designs also not bad.

just collected my pair of DKNY 1/2 frame metallic bronze from Eyesmate (JB)

20-30% cheaper than SG in terms of frame price, standard crizal non transition non airwear 125 125 degree @ 130 Ringgit, about 50sgd +?

Let me know if you guys are interested in any model I might be able to recommend for a better price, store manager is a personal friend of mine =)

I feel they can lower for the lens, whats the market price for those?

Not very sure about crizal basic and easy. but crizal advance 1.5 is $110. 1.56 @ $130

$60 is too good to be true, unless u know the boss well.
