You are wrong again to assume that they will probably close shop soon by offering me the Tokia Modecinq lens at $450. In fact, to be exact, the Tokia lens cost me $414 after the discount. I am waiting to collect the spectacle in about 2 weeks time. Let me say this… there are couple of outlets in Singapore and they have being operating their optical shops for 20 plus years; close to 30 years. They are reputable optical shops that I have been using them for 20 plus years.
actually you are right. they won't close shop by selling the tokai modecinq lens with a RRP of $950 to you for $450. that is if they only sell it to you at that price but charges other people the RRP or there about. The RRP is $950 provided by the supplier but you get it at $450. so who is trying to rip the consumer off, the supplier or the shop ? Think about it, RRP $950 and you getting it at more than 50% discount. if something is too good to be true, it usually is. i will probably think twice if out of 5 shops give me RRP of $950 but only one shop give me a price of $450 for the same product. Tokai have RRP too, maybe you can ask them to show you the price list. if you are able to get a 50% off the price list for their other Tokai lens, then you really "kio tio". and if you start recommending your relatives and friends to that shop and they are forced to sell the modecinq lens at $450, then jia lat....I say good luck to them.
Usually it's optical shops who anyhow shout price and then give you 50% discount giving optical shops a bad image. and these are usually the old school optical shops.
When I purchased the ByWP frame at the best price they quoted me from shop C, I knew they already anticipated or knew that very likely I will just go for the ByWP frame alone. You can’t say that they are going to charge me more for the lens to make it up. Of course they would like me to have the lens done all together with the ByWP frame.
And for your info, when I was at the shop with the lady sales representative discussing about I.Terminal, the boss himself was nearby and he was fascinated with my queries and discussion about how measured data and lens fitting placed an important part. That was how and when he was willing to demo the I.Terminal with me and the later part he offered me the full complimentary eye test without any obligation whether I get my lens from them or not. This was where I valued their customer service.
there is a reason why they do the demo and give you complimentary eye tests. because they were hoping they can impress you with their latest technology and hopefully will change your mind and buy lenses from them. well you didn't take the bait, too bad for them. You valued their customer service yet you didn't buy the lenses from them because you think you can get it cheaper elsewehere. in the end , it still boils down to price and not the service.
Next time you need an eye test (just eye test, you not going to buy glasses), if you go to another shop and that shop tells you they will charge you for eye tests, will you pay for it ?? or will you go to that shop that give you free eye test ? well if you can get it for free, why pay , right ?
