thanks for reply :) shud be heading down to chinatown! any shops there to recommend?

pearl optical? I've seen people bargain really hard and gotten away with a pretty good price? but never been there myself.
anyway I think its best to know what you're buying and move on if you think things aren't right.

if you prefer assurance that you won't be left hanging when things go wrong , pay retail price and try Paris miki or capitol.

Hi Seannie, I m very impressed with your knowledge and If u recalled you hv given me some advise a few weeks ago. I hv finally settled with silhouette golden circles Rimless and photofusion lens. Total cost me rm $4500. The bulk of the costs was on the phone fusion lens by zeiss which is selling At s$1800. Collecting next week...looking forward to It!

All the best of luck to your new specs. Hopefully it can last you for more than 6 years. I'm hoping that my pair of gum metal jap Dun frame can last me 5 yrs or more and maybe even a lifetime :s13: becos it has been really hard for me to find any frame that can fit me perfectly enough to give me peace of mind that I have somewhat given up hope on that. So I will just keep falling back on what's the best available and keep strictly to my guideline on future search of specs if the need arises. I will also return to my latest current optician. Periodically I will return and review new frames that really suit me I make extra and keep. If none suitable then I won't buy on impulse & just wait & see while falling back on my old spec.

I do hope It will last as long But sometimes got to change due to changes in degrees. This is the first tume I m investing in such an expensive lens, I do hope I will be satisfied with what I paid.

Like you, It took me months to decide on the frame, really hope I will not hv regrets taking the silhouette rimless. Currently, I m using charmant Rimless...

oldbreadstinks, you named a number of lens brands (nikon/hoya/zeiss/seiko/tokai) previously.

am in sg now, i've done some shopping around and for nikon seacoat 1.67, looks like it's about mid $300s and hoya about high $200s. what's a decent low-mid range lens brand? i've reconsidered and am looking at a budget of $200. not sure whether this is set too low....

reason being i think i will be changing my frames in the next year or so and foresee myself wearing contacts most of the time and this pair of glasses might just serve as a spare/back up.

best deal so far for acuvue 2 for me is $33.50/box. might just go with that.

its the lens that can be expensive. frame still got choice from 50 - xxxx.

Zeiss lens is on the higher end (but very good optical quality)), those hoya/kodak/essilor are lower.

Im considering doing a pair of progressive lens, degree about 250-300, zeiss around 1.8, nikon should be 1.2k, essilor around 0.6k.

How should I wash my specs without damaging the lense?

Can I use dish soap an run it under tap water?

My fingers will have to rub the lenses right?

After that use specs cloth to dry?

erm? how about bargaining for the len price?
generally speaking it's possible to bargain in most shops

nikon $328
zeiss $320
hoya $280 for basic asp 1.67? they have quite a few types of 1.67 at different prices higher and lower than $280
kodak$228 I think
ao teflon $200++ can't recall but this one's quite good but I heard they're going to kill off the brand or something

not possible unless you have a real one to compare or you're experienced with them

for really good ones
faded col
slanted logo
thinner frames
mis-shaped frame
just saw one that if you don't know them that well it's a 95% accuracy hit

I personally knew shops that carry real rayban from authorised dealers
others bring in parallel imports and rumours says fakes (95% ones) to mix with real ones. saw at least one shop got their account revoked for that.

mine's all plastic for both frame and lenses. no screws or bolts
for me I find that water is enough. soap maybe once or twice a year?
I'm not sure which soap is suitable so I tend to use water more. then after rinsing and lightly but thoroughly rubbing through. I'll dry it with a cloth and the cloth takes off the rest of the oil

micro fibre tends to stop adsorbing oil after 4-5 time of use? then you have to wash them.

lol you're treating your glasses differently because of the cost?

Tokia 1.76 index double aspherical

Hi all,

Can someone tell me more about the Tokai Bi-AS lens?

Are there any other brands that are doing double aspheric lens?

Am into thinner lens so it's under consideration. But it's going for like $1250 retail if you go for it
