Spectacles getting expensive nowadays or what.

I remembered few years ago went to a small spectacle shop looking for cheap specs...minimum $200. Then father bought me to someplace in serangoon the specs about $100.

I don't look for branded specs the $100 specs now I wearing is 1/2 frameless at the bottom with frame at the top half ..brand is realmadrid (lol).

Not sure if spectacle shop is see young adult then charge expensive or what haha...

but generally cheaper frames quality not as good, and don last as long as the more expensive ones.

the reverse is true as well. sadly

boils down to design and material. but the general user wouldn't encounter glasses often enough to tell.

cause personally I have good experience with cheap specs.

My previous specs last me about 4 years, current specs about few years, i'm quite sure at least 3 years-4 years already.

Infact I don't change specs unless i accidentally crush my specs.

Like what i have always emphasized before, go for true titanium jap frames which are strong, durable and corrosion-resistant to last you for as long as you want them to. :s13:

i also dread changing specs already after so many disheartening misfits and problems. Getting a good strong quality frame might save you the need to change specs ever again, if strong enough to withstand crushes. Normal cheap specs will not have enough strength to withstand strong impact & crushes. You will need stronger material like GUM METAL. Try the jap brand "DUN" which i am wearing now. I believe it can last very long.

most breakages occur within the first 2 years at either joints, spring hinges or welding areas.
nosepads not counted.
I find that generally if you prefer to pay for "quality" those are the areas you have to look out for. other than discoloration

The thing with this brand is that their silicone temple tips spoil easily and there is no where to change it, so even if the frame last long or not is a moot point, unless u got those designs that dun use the silicone ear socks. I checked with several shops carrying it and no one can provide the replacement tips or help with it

no choice lor

for hard to find frames generally parts have to be sourced from the suppliers overseas.
like mikli/starck from hk

theo from belgium

since they were ordered from there in the the first place. you'll just have to visit the retailer who sold it to you.

Went Queensway Shopping centre to look for a new pair of specs. Thinking either ByWP or ICBerlin in mind cos I have very broad face. I though ByWP is generally much cheaper than ICBerlin but one of the famous shop quoted me $650 for ByWP frame with Hoya 1.6 spherical transition while another shop quoted $750 for ICBerlin frame with same lens. Has ByWP frame prices went so high up?

you should bargain in queensway

and unless you trust the shop don't buy anything above level 1 for branded glasses.

Anyone used MARKUS T specs before ? any review ? Price range ?

the ones I've seen are generally soft rimlon plastic

if you're looking for lightweight ones to handle stress of flexing they're fine, should last without issues since no screws to tighten(the ones I've seen are all fasten together by design) would last years if stress and weight and screws are your main concern.

but if you're looking for glasses for rough use, they're not it.

have seen them retailing from $400 onwards, not for high prescriptions

any optic shop got sell cheaper rayban black frames glasses?

heard from my cousin plaza sing has a shop that sold sunglasses from rayban quite cheaply around 3 years back? not sure about frames? but prices have increased last year.
though luxotica launched a cheaper range that's made in china around $100+
if you don't hiam the lens likely the china made frames plus lens all in less than $160?

What's your experience on the wear and quality of ic! berlin in general. And while comparing with ByWP, Urband, Markus T, Mykita, etc? Which brand/mechanism to go for?

due to the lack of moving parts, so far ic!berlin appears to be one of the most lasting ones I've seen. reminds me of the old oakley designs. simply pegged in, nothing to lossen or tighten. but you need to fit the frame.

I've seen them lasting 5 years without colors coming off.... but of course at the same time I've seen a 14 yr old's ic berlin turning silver in half a year.. so I guess it's the user? but the kid's dad was so happy with the fact his kid's ic berlin lasted half a year that he brought him back to make another one. the dad felt $5-600 plus in half a year was a bargain compared to previous glasses lol so that explains the lasting-ness?

Bywp seems to be similar to ic berlin but softer material? but I prefer ic berlin's joints

I haven't seen urbands for sometime I'll just assume nothing's went wrong and they're improving, have seen them improving on nosepad holders back when they were launched here for the 2nd batch when there were complains asians couldn't wear them properly.
but although they can flex out to 180degrees, they need more parts. for a titanium frame they still need a stainless steel clip to provide the spring for the sides. something that would not work out well if you're the kind that keep the frame for a very long time but change lenses often, inexperienced hands might damage the frame.

markus T as above post

Mykita, not familar

How would it fit one with wide temples, pronounced cheekbones & square-to-sharp jawline?

lol in all things the same principle applies
whether clothing, interior design or glasses.
too sharp a face best to round off the angles
too round? frame it and take the attention away.

col wise, mostly metallic so it's a "colder" look
you'll look more serious with them. for some to the point of being unfriendly/stern

fitting wise, tailored to one's one head shape and wearing habits would be best.
I personally do not like weight and even the slightest feel but have met those who love their head in a vice. so it's hard to comment on fitting.
but ic berlin seem to have their fans more with people who want less pressure on the sides and less weight where fitting is concerned.
so I'll expect you to want something slightly bigger than your face to make the face look smaller?
