is it normal for the temple hinge (without spring) to hyper-extend a little to fit my face?

yes if your head is too big

go for 55 then?

but remember to ask for asian fit if you're ordering, takes 1 month or 2 to order?

open your golden mouth and ask for discount.

there are shops which do mark up certain things higher, and give you a better discount. it's not called carrot head. it's legitimate for them to do so so if you're a bargain hunter find something you like ask for a best price.

Hello all, i just checked and found that for hoya 1.6 transition lens is $280. and if its astig is above 2, it is higher. is that the normal retail price? thanks.

for thickness you won't need to go beyond 1.56 or 1.6
1.6 if you need something tougher for rimless or rimlon
specific lenses depends on your frame and lol how deep your pocket is.

hoya site maybe? I think most of those in the optical trade here don't seem to have a place where they congregate to share knowledge? most not willing to share with each other also.

the best thing is to visit optical shops and see if they're willing to inform you on your choices before you even consider to buy. state your intention before hand to prevent disappointment (on their side, not nice to pretend to buy)and if the shop is not interested in sharing info without sales you can guess the aftersales service liao

only certain retailers carry it back then so you don't really see enough volume to know if there's servicing issues

personal opinion, so don't quote me on this
I do feel that within the same manufacturer, frames sharing the same structure,material and design like say oliver's people's acetate frames will usually have the same quality.

When you say "same manufacturer", do you mean Luxottica? They were really good before being bought over by them. I know the typical response to that is, things will go downhill from there (like Oakley). But I was thinking not all brands are like that and OP is one of them.

I bought OP frames via eBay from US and although I am no expert in spectacles, the finishing, material (zyle) and "made in Japan" feels right.

I wouldn't pay the sg prices for OP though.

One of the shops in Queensway carry them, it is a very nicely furnished corner shop with a partition that makes it look like 2 shop space. The sales there were very friendly, one very funky looking too but very friendly.

anybody have any comments on hamamoto eyewears? I quite like the design, and comfort, but not too sure about quality?

I was quoted about $600 for SFT 1.67 Hoya with hamamoto frames, and $660 for SFT 1.67 with Dun eyewears.

hi raptor 1, if you trust me, dont take hamamoto even though it looks nice. Due to its design, the lens dont seem to be really stable especially in strong wind, may make you feel giddy. And anyway, hamamoto is not that common nowadays. If you take it most likely to be old stocks that shops wanna clear them off. Insider info. hahaha.

If i were you, i will take Dun with no regrets.

semi-rimmed. To me, if rimless then no contrast to your face, as if not wearing specs at all. Should be around S$400. Medium price range.

I was at Nanyang Optics @ Parkway on Sunday, tried the Dun Specs, Quite impressed by it too (and the price... ><). Not too sure if Queensway carry Dun specs, hopefully would be a tad cheaper

Hmmm not sure about queensway, never been there for some time, last round i been there never saw much jap brands. I seldom see Dun eyewear, maybe not many shops take it, and not puzzled why too, becos like you said if u are impressed, it should be a good thing, but shops seem to want sell popular brands like rayban, oakley etc.

Even when you are at nanyang HQ, you also dont see they take many Dun specs right? They have alot of mostly euro brands & also their own brands.

I think they have rimless models Dun 2042. But not sure if you can find in outside shops or not. Their rimless is not the kind of subtle style like silhuoette so not sure what you think of them.

But if you still keen, let me know & i can ask my optician on your behalf & see whether she can order it from the supplier.
