I dun like the silhouette frame Co's my right lens get smudged very easily by my eye lashes...the fitting is not so good.

I can only say, you'll never know til you try.
personally I've never had such rave reviews regarding dun and the entire group of similar frames. definitely not about the part where it enhances the quality of life.:s13::s13::s13:
(I just found out my bro has a pair last night and he has no idea where he chucked it, didn't like the fitting.)

but if you're interested. find a place where they'll let you try it on for 5-15 mins
if it feels as awesome, talk to the person there, for half frames if the bridge area is of a similar size, and the person is confident enough regarding the points(progressives) and the axis if you have astig. it's possible to switch the lenses over. have seen it done sucessfully but the measurements must be the same for both frames.

of course if the person is unable to understand and thinks it's just moving the lenses over then skip it.

if you can't decide then visit the person who sold you the silhouette and ask if they have anyone in the shop who can push the glasses out for you. ideally that is the cheapest and best solution[/QUOTE]

that's because it doesn't sell. it's one of those brands that you have to push to sell and most wearers don't have such a good opinion of it.
not exactly a bad opinion but simply it's another frame brand they move on from for their next pair.
if not for your views on it I would never have realised there are people actually liked it that much.
for it's price point it isn't one of those things where you go "wow" when you put it on.
it has a specific market, a group of customers who aren't common in sg.

when frames like japonism and dun reached nanyang, it never really moved. unknown european brands moved faster. staff would have to talk like you did to make the customers interested and yet they don't stick with the japanese frames for their next pair.(simply no impact)
naturally the vol never increased since there's no market for it.

IN sg especially hard to sell non-branded frames la. sg ppl are very brand conscious de. somemore this DUN frames not exactly that cheap right? if not cheap plus unknown brand where will ppl buy? oni a selected few like u say will like it bah.

Hey, Dun is a branded jap designer brand okie, just that its not an international brand. Ofcos good things dont come cheap because they use a special titanium alloy that is much more stronger, flexible & lighter than regular titanium, even better than beta-titanium. The fact is that you dont get to see this type of material in other spectacles frames. I say so much oso no use la, you got to really own it & wear it before you know what im toking abt. Its about the "soft" feel of the Gummetal material. The actual concept of Dun is their comfort in wearing. Its not so much on the style or brand. You got to try it before you can say you like it or not.

If you have such views, it goes to show that you are just like "one of those people in the crowd". Most people try on frames in the shop for that instant (maybe 5-10 mins) then end up having the opinion that the frame looks good or not or whether it has impact or not. Dun frames may look and/or feel simple at first try, but when you actually wear & look at it a few more times you will realise its not that simple look after all. I have seen alot of frames which are even simpler or less "impact" than Dun and yet people are still wearing.

IC!Berlin also looks simple to me & i dont feel the impact after actually wearing. It just look ordinary & the designs dont vary much at all. Only slight changes made to the shapes every year. The only special part is in its hinges. But the fitting just dont suit me at all. Like what i said, its euro-fit & WE are asians, not europeans, so naturally we should look for asian fits for comfort. And comfort should rank first in an optical aid. Correct me if i am wrong ok, but i dont think i am wrong in saying so. In fact Looks come secondary in terms of spectacle wearing. If a pair of specs doesnt function properly whats use of looking branded or stylish??

Dun frames will only appeal to those group of people who is searching for comfort & durable wear, with broader faces and should appeal to the more matured age group. Youngsters will definitely not look them.

To me, its a rare gem find. And due to its low profile, it took me so long time to get in touch with this brand.

And yes, nanyang optical take in alot of euro brands which i tried & pull them off at the first instant, darn uncomfortable, hard, heavy, unstable, no grip etc. Their best selling brand is rayban. Their in-house brands like urband also euro-fit. I think they use european designers to design their in-house frames.

The price is tagged to Dun's material. Charment's excellence titan's series also cost that much ard $400. If you see charmant's standard range, price ard $200 only. So you cant say that Dun's pricing is expensive relative to its premium material & design consideration. In fact, i think its comparable & justifiably reasonable.

chill bro, haha i am just stating the point that it is kinda hard to find Dun frames here in SG simply becos most ppl here oni noe rayban, oakley, tag heuer, gucci, prada, lv, burberry. if shops dun carry some of these brands very hard to survive la.

and its a vicious cycle, as long as its not popular the support is often lacking.
like opening an account with an obscure bank. you can't find their atms everywhere.
for investments yes and related products, but for an everyday service they don't work out

I have felt a charmant sg belonging to a friend before.
I noticed it and picked it up and was surprised by the quality of the metal works and remarked . it can't be cheap this isn't your usual charmant stuff.

according to him its retailing for $500? but he chucks it around carelessly anyway since its a gift.

that one there's no need to sell you can get the wow factor simply by touching the metal . I never even put it
on.

but sorry never gotten the same feelings for dun
for you maybe but not for me

for Asians sadly to stop the glasses from slipping you need someone to adjust the tips in . the rubbers by themselves do not help if there isn't enough pressure

Why is Oakley bad after its been taken over?
Still the same products no?

different directions

previously they used a stronger metal with less weldings in design
nowadays.. all the new signature sunglasses have their legs attached by screws .
and frames have more moving parts.
for those who want something more dainty abs light.

it hardly sounds convincing if anyone who don't agrees with you gets labelled "follows the crowd"
as I said to you before ,you already like one thing too much too see the flaws.

putting down other brands don't exactly help

if you don't like the fact dun has no wow factor for me you can just skip my posts.
you're not a little kid who can't handle someone else's opinion.

the special point about ic!berlins was never their designs . how many German brands do you know that were actually known for aesthetics?
but durability yes, they can survive damage dealt to them under normal circumstances. no ic Berlin frame has ever broken off from normal use .
dun has

fitting wise, despite the toughness of the steel, it is still actually adjustable to mold it to your face .

and think about it, titanium doesn't rust.
why do the screws on so many "pure"titanium frames rust?
why not carry on with the old spring hinge system?
why did so many Japanese frames move on to using a solid piece of metal for the spring effect?
there isn't a one size fit all
but your message sure as hell comes off that way

if the frame doesn't fit you within 15 mins there's no point carrying on. beyond that you'll still have to slowly try and see.
as you've felt from experience and like how someone else here have expresed how the soft bits break off.

oldbreadstinks, what should be the proper way of assessing the right pair of eyewear when one is at the shop? What are some of the "etiquettes" to note while at the shop; how hard should we bargain?

there is no fixed set of rules sorry .
its simply normal interaction.
how you test other people to see if they can be trusted.

there are shops filled with staff who provide better value when you have them by the balls.
others simply become disinterested when you talk roughly.

one way would be to ask questions and judge from there . anyone not willing to invest time in you when there are no other customers is simply not a person you want to invest time and money in .

bargaining depends on the place. some like Paris miki have strict rules against bargaining and prefer you to choose them based on service. capitol too as a general note(different outlets though react differently. to my colleagues reading this yes, remember the old lady?40%? wtf? without bargaining?no wonder she's like a force of nature closing shops wherever she goes)

most neighborhood shops may actually respond positively to you asking for a really good price if you ask for it without bargaining aggressively,
I've seen cases where you can walk in and ask for a particular product at x price with this particular prescription . the optician then chooses to accept or reject your offer.
like playing a tikam game really.
you can bargain your ass off for 20% while someone goes in make the shop feels at ease and walks off with 35%

as for frames , as seanie mentioned most shops carry similar ranges these days.
at least understand why the current glasses fit or do not fit you . width? weight? breakage? col peeling? remember those points and use them to find one
maybe ask around nearby shops and maybe try out recommendations . if the answers provided do not seem logical . the suggestions sometimes no matter how good may not feel comfortable to you.
if you intend to pay more then the average $200 for a pair of glasses. milk the service provider for their service. what they can do to make things work make them solve your issues. rather then move on when things don't work out?
you see people receiving the best servicing for $50 glasses why not you?
buying offline is about service

You think i dont know the quality of Charmant? I own one of charmant's top premium frame myself, so how will i not know? I pretty much know for sure quality of the metal works. It is DEFINITELY not as superb as you have said. Mine lies at home now with the supposedly "excellence" titan bent out of shape by a mere twist of my fingers, not even by much strength it goes out of shape & cant be reshaped back, beecame a piece of distorted metal.

I am not wowed by CHarmant at all. I even discovered some flaws in craftsmanship as well as material in my own pair which i owned not too long ago.

And Dun Gummetal is definitely not of this kind of soft quality. It is enough flexibility for comfort wear but at the same time enough strength.

And ya since you do not agree with my comments that's fine, i shall not post to you and end up getting whacked. Im old enough to know i dont need this kind of beating from you. Im just posting for other readers whom i think ought to know the truth.

And im not particularly siding any brand at all here. I have worn too many brands so much so that I know what is a good frame when i wear one now.

As for IC!Berlin, yeah, maybe you think it can be adjusted slightly but that is only that much of adjustment you can make, you cant chnage the temple shape entirely to fit big heads. So the original design of the fitting is very important, no amount of skill of an optician can do better than a good fit. I never said one size fits all. Im just saying Dun suits bigger heads. Ofcos when you try & it doesnt fit you then you ought not to take it. My comments are just for reference only, not anything else.

And yes, if you ask me, im rather pissed by your optician-knows-better kind of attitude.

wah, haven't come in for a long time, the past few pages like quite heated ....

Quality is very subjective.
Do you know what your're looking for in a new frame?
Do you know what to look out for?

There is no perfect frame, only a frame that suits you.
