Im not surprised by this. My dad only had O level, he was born in 1940s.

Back then even ITE cert was a big deal. Most ppl stopped at O level or PSLE. Uni and ITE grads were maybe top 10% or even fewer.

Now graduates are a dime a dozen. But the common pitfall is that ppl think the 40% graduate population now shd enjoy the same lifestyle as graduates back then, who were more likely the top 10% or 5%. This is not a like for like comparison.

In reality, probably only the top 25% graduates now (or 10% of total graduate population) will be able to earn income equivalent to the graduates in 1979.
So many degree holders have to eat cai png frequently now compared to the olden days degree holders.

That’s why say oppo no credibility. Cherry pick numbers to make a mountain out of a non issue.

It is exactly why they bring this up.

People need to understand that they are not as well off as in the past.

HDB prices have gone up, but fresh graduates purchasing power has dropped.

Yes government killed the blue collar jobs, and now, the consequences are clear. Especially when AI is capable to process and compile information a human can never do.

Milking on $500 workers will only damage the core of a country's productivities.

True. Even comparing with ITE grads now.

If you take ITE in mechanics or plumbing, you may start out as a blue collar worker.

As times goes by, you may have more jobs without being retrenched. You may even be your own boss.

You might ended up earning more than a normal uni grad that has a degree in business.
