Just received my Chestermox #90 Barenia Wallet today!
...after quite a bit of delay (approx 2 weeks+ from Chestermox), but it's alright no rush from my side.

Now just hope the wallet will last with a nice patina haha!

There are actually quite a few tanneries currently producing shell cordovan. 8 that I know of for sure

- Horween (USA)
- Shinki Hikaku (Japan)
- Clayton & Sons (UK)
- Rocinante (Argentina)
- Comipel SRL (Italy)
- Rocado SRL (Italy)
- Maryam SRL (Italy)
- Conceria Cloe (Italy)
- Possibly another in Japan called Alps??

I'm sure there may be a few others out there experimenting/developing or haven't been discovered... mainly in Italy where there are an absurd amount of tanneries.

Although there are 8, it isn't necessarily that high. Shinki Hikaku provides the shells to Comipel and they just dye them so they're basically the same shell cordovan.

Something similar is done between Rocado SRL and Maryam SRL. One supplies the other.

If you have questions on any of them, let me know as I've handled (and currently own at least 1 shell) from each of the 6 tanneries.

thanks man! learned something new now.

btw, are you the man behind guardedgoods.com?

Thinking of getting a Bellroy 'hide & Seek' wallet

Any owners of Bellroy?

i think the model that i have is a slim sleeve (can't remember is it cocoa or java color?). it's small, compact and good looking when it is new.

1. but i dislike the soft leather and to make matters worse, the inner lining is of fabric material, the entire wallet feels like a face towel when i'm holding it.
2. i'm not too sure if it is the type of leather that they used, it gets laced with scratch marks easily just from daily usage.
3. the pull-tab is a flop. it seems to work perfectly in their vids. in real life, your cards always get jammed/stuck halfway while you are drawing the tab.

i shelved it after using for barely a year. at least, i know now i like compact wallets with hard/thick texture. YMMV. i'm looking at dash wallet now - http://dashwallets.com/shop/

Very very nice. I would have went for Ashland if I didn't gian something handmade.

I also in love with navy cordovan, but my wallet I went for lava Shinki cordovan. Now want to get a pair of navy cordovan wholecuts.. Maybe you can consider colour 8 shoes? :D

Haha maybe get colour 8 watch strap first. I already have 3 pairs of Ed Et Als all bought within a span of 6 months :s13: gotta slowly upgrade my shoe collection step by step. But I'll definitely wanna get colour 8 shoes sometime in the future =:p

Hi guardedgoods,

montgomery leather works has shell cordovan from a Santa Croce sull'Arno in Italy.

Any opinions on this tannery and their shell? how does it compare to horween and shinki shell? :)

Nice! If it's not too much trouble, can you show a photo of the interior? Thanks!

How's Chester Mox workmanship? Anybody here owns one? Guarded Goods looks good too.

I have some photos of my chestermox Barenia wallet posted here on 11 June. Just started using so can't comment how's the workmanship.

But I remember there's another user who shared his chestermox wallet that has been used for years and still going strong sometime ago too.

Haven't had personal experience but from tons of reading around, workmanship seems pretty much top notch. Handcrafted. Falerbrand too

Waiting for guardedgoods to get around to my wallet..

I think it's very to justify a crafter's worksmanship in words. It's best seen in person and only time will tell whether the worksmanship is good or bad as you put the wallet through years of usage.
