OVM mk1, which is the one with the black dial, is the original OVM and homage to the 5517. This is the one i got from boss gx84. He ghosted the bezel for a more vintage feel.

After having some photo time with my Steinhart, my dad got interested and is looking into the OVM...but...for a whole other reason.

That being that it stands to it's name of having a very clean and vintage look (like that of a Vinyl vs a CD).

just to confirm my assumption..

between this: http://www.gnomonwatches.com/watches/steinhart-watches/ocean-vintage-military-mk2-5

and

http://www.gnomonwatches.com/watches/steinhart-watches/ocean-1-vintage-red-mk2

the Mk2.5 is the newer version, but the Mk2 is the original homage to the 5517 aka the original OVM?

More important is which one looks better on your wrist :)

The OVM is the original homage to 5517

ovm Mk2 has slight modifications:

Left is OVM
Right is OVM mk2

Mk2.5 has a slightly darker dial compared to the MK2 which is more greyish. While it is still not black but has a darker grey dial with a slight grain to it compared to the MK2. It's rumored that This might just be a one off model.

Lower left is mk2.5
upper right is mk2

For those targeting BB and Sub, may want to have a look at the MM300 also. Value for money Japanese goodness :D

I'm very very tempted by the mm300! Especially since i sold my subC... there's like this major void in collection...

It is a beauty really! Would keep it if i wasn't consolidating my watches... but shall let go of this unique OVM mk1 now... hopefully someone who really appreciates it pick it up!

i hope someone appreciate the ghost bezel that i did. haha still think it's a solid watch at below 700 with ETA movement, sapphire crystal and faux patina.

the OVM 1 is the most sought after OVM.

No extra line below the steinhart logo.
follows the 200m liner as the 5517 (however the watch is rated at 300m)
short production time which led to OVM MK2.

Ang moh forum review here

According to him, (tl;dr version) "The tech is great, the engineering is great, the feel is great, but the look is.. a bit dull. On some days, I absolutely love this watch. On other days, I end up reaching for something else."
Actually that's why I like it.. because it looks sleek, dull and understated... but yet to see it in person..

I can't help but feel that the OVM's are better suited for the older gentlemen. The OT 500 has a young and modern look/feel to it.

Go down and try them all and decide which you like best.
