Since it is a gift for the partner, I will recommend getting new instead of pre-owned. I am not sure of the OP's partner but my wife told me she doesn't like to receive a pre-owned watch as a gift.

Oris 65 is a good choice but I don't think can get at $1.5k new? Should be in the range of $1.8k - $1.9k if I am not wrong. Unless u are talking about pre-owned which is around that price.

He already got a dressy one in the Visodate. So why not consider something more rugged, like a diver's watch/sporty ranges?

TBH Seiko/Steinhart/Squale/Citizen/Oris has quite a range, so you may wanna take a quick look at some of their offerings? Or can look for something pre-owned (though not advisable if you are not too familiar w watches?) If I had $2.5K to spend on a watch, I would probably get:

1) pre-owned Omega 2254
2) Oris 65 + change of $1K to spare (maybe whack another Steinhart, more is better, no?)

I sold mine (omega SMP chrono) as it got very little wrist time over the years... although sad, decided to let it go!

Which tudor u eyeing?

Need to top up for Orient Star meh? Which one you thinking of getting?

Tired of your watch for some reason? It's a perfectly good one!

my bad..should have been more specific..sorry sorry..

i mean if i sell my Seiko for perhaps $8xx, i might have to top up $2xxx for a Tudor Black Bay or maybe hoot a Orient Star which cost $5xx (and earn back $300 plus lol)

this is the orient star i'm eyeing lo~ :o

just curious, did you guys sell your first luxury watch or keep it for sentiment reasons?

im thinking of maybe selling my SARW019 to fund a Tudor or Orient Star...additional top up will be from 13th month bonus :o

Mine was a Rolex Sub 16610.. for keeps and intended to be passed down...

Like some of the other bros recommended, Nomos is a good choice for your budget. Can consider the Nomos Club which is their more sporty model. You can get the basic 36mm Nomos Club with steel case back at lesser than $1.7k after discount. But if your partner likes big watches, then this is out.

Can also consider Montblanc watches, i find some of them quite swee.

Hello!

My partner's birthday is coming up and I was thinking of getting him a watch. Last year, I read through this thread and decided on the Tissot Visodate (Thanks!!).

Not sure what to get this year? Seems like there's a lot of buzz on Steinhart/Seiko but I don't think he will like it. My budget is about $2.5K? Hope anyone here can throw me some watch brands so I can check it out? What would you like to receive? He doesn't dress in office wear, mostly in casual shirts and jeans if that's any help? Thank you!!

would strongly advise you to physically try on the Orient Star Classic watch first. for me, the blue hands just doesn't suit my skin tone :(

black bay which color?

black bay 4680
sub 10800

after discount

black bay 3900 - 15%
sub 9720 - 10%

its 2.5x difference.

are you gonna be a one watch guy or you're looking to get more?
do you like the black bay better or the sub?
go and try them and come back with your views on both of them..(resell value aside.)
Hmmm... Im 21 trying to get my first watch, I probably will stay one watch guy till after poly.(Not anytime soon)
And also, I never saw the submariner before but the black bay black de... Is just so sexy...
