Never play older rolex before. What's wrong with the old clasp ah

Now different?

:lick:  :s12:

bro indigo22, i have finally learned to love and embrace rolex of this vintage because of their perfect proportions. but the their cheapo stamped metal clasp is still a letdown. loving rolex of this vintage doesn't make me blind to their shortcoming(s). but what to do? like marriage/set lunch, it's the whole package deal. you take the good with the good. :s13:

so... how much was yours and is it a full set with b+p? :)

bro AyuReady, if you've a chance to look, touch, feel and compare the solid, milled and sensuously smoothened & polished s/steel clasps of newer rolexes to the older cheapo, stamped metal clasps of older rolexes (say in a 2nd hand rolex shop), you too will conclude that is like between heaven & earth! :(

some recommended reading before you go for your field trip: http://thegreengmthand.com/about/useful-rolex-knowledge/#Rolex_clasp_update :)

for 14060. rather top up for 114060. a better beast.

bro Donten, you'd say that since you own a 114060, won't you? :s13:

but i fully agree with you that the 114060 is better in several ways:
- scratch resistant ceramic bezel.
- superior engineering: parachrome hairspring & paraflex shock absorber.
- finally, a superb clasp that befits rolex luxury price tag!
- an even better movement that's +/- 2 s/day capable.

but i feel the supersized case is out of proportion to its bracelet width.

it all boils down to personal taste & preferences after all.

i prefer the more restrained (and imho perfect) proportions of rolex's preceding generation before it went maxi-dial and supercase.

and fwiw, i'm a sucker for relatively rarer oop models. the 2-liner 14060M looks perfect to me.

Went into lurker mode after starting new job. Belated thanks to the bros here who helped me in my watch hunt.

In the end, didn't get a GS cos of the long servicing turnaround time. I'm a one-watch guy and can't have my man-bling disappear for 2 months!

So here's what I got:

congratulations on your new omega aqua terra, bro rhema83! enjoy your watch in good health! :s12:

I think there is more than just the cheapo clasp of a old rolex...

I love mine for what it is..
Its patina, the Radial dial, the Rugged insert.. and i cant see anyone wearing the same watch as i :(

That's all.

bracelet's on my Z series 16570T is good: SELs, solid links. only let down by the period correct stamped metal clasp.

paid rolex price for SELs, solid links... but get stamped metal clasp. :s22: :(

i prefer metal bracelets in our hot, humid, sticky, sucky climate. so will be wearing it on the bracelet. A light polish done professionally or even DIY carefully with a cape cod cloth should bring the bracelet back to its clean, sexy, LNIB condition. :D

hi, bro chows99. first up, congratulation on owning a classic-in-the-making! a full set b+p 2-liner z series (or newer) 14060m is my next grail.

imho, desirability is a mix of personal preference, relative rarity, herd mentality, market forces, demand & supply, collectors driving up prices, etc.

to some, a 2-liner 14060m is more desirable because it lacks the COSC label on dial while the movement is actually COSC certified iirc. also the sparse 2-liner makes the dial less busy. with lesser numbers available, its rarity also makes it more desirable to some collectors.

as always, when it comes to vintage rolex collecting, it's always the trivial minutiae and even unintended flaws/defects that make the collectors go berserk and lusting after them (like fading GMT master pepsi bezels in various hues of blue & red, cracked spiderweb dials, meters first depth rating, dial/bezel fonts, frogfoot/bart simpson/etc rolex crown logos, 16550 white dials that turned cream/ivory due to paint flaw, red letterings on the sub and SD, gilt dials, crown size, etc). go figure! :s22: :s13:

for collectors, owning a rare(r) vintage rolex gives them that satisfaction & special feeling... of feeling special! :D

Thanks TT for sharing. I learnt a lot. Now I can appreciate a 2-liner. But this 14060m is my 1st real watch so it stays with me. Will look at gmt vintage. Hope u wear your explorer 2 in good health!

i was looking at 14060 with your above criteria before deciding on the 114060. z series most likely have parachrome hairspring and consist of both 2 lines and 4 lines. paraflex shock absorber is not on 116610/114060 iirc. however, paraflex is on the 214270 which i believe is cheaper than the sub. go try a subc, you will feel the 14060 is dinky in terms of machining.

lai lai omega 2254 for sale.

anyone interested? lol decided to offload it for my pam.

sorry tt01 lol

no worries lah, bro gaoxing84. i hope you get a good price for it.

i firmly believe that both the 2254.50 & the 2538.20 GMT great white (esp full sets w/ b+c+m) will go up in value in future.

Looking from another angle, the supersized case can be polished more times. If you are feeling adventurous, can even get the beveled edges to make it look more tapered to the bracelet.

Congratulations on the Polar Explorer II, a very understated and handsome piece! Now you need a black dial Rolex to match the Omega collection, I agree that a 14060M would be a solid choice. :s12:

How about chronograph, moon phase, beater? :s13:

Beater is the EF522 I'm wearing now, when it dies it will be replaced by an SNKE53 or DW5600BBN.

Not interested in Chronos at all so probably will never fill that slot...
As for moonphase, Orient Sun & Moon is a nice bargain...
