Good evening,

Hi this is my first time asking question on HWZ i am looking for my first Automatic watch. I only owned Edifice and a Typical DW watch that you guys wouldn't even bother to have it.

Long story short I would like to purchase my very first automatic, Budget of $500 dollars. A few things i would like is a exhibition case back, saphire crystal and it looks classic and classy. Some reference to possible designs that i would like.

Background about me, I am age 21, Male and would like to own a automatic that has those criterias and look something like the links provided and also fits my budget i need help selecting a good first watch and a place to help me kickstart my hunt for one. Please recommend me thanks!

P.S i suddenly got intrigue into mechanical watches and the inner workings of watches that runs without battery by ways of manual winding and or automatic. I am bombarded with way too many brands. I need help to narrow it down. Seiko/orient seems to have all the criterias but the design isn't for my age range... and the one i like and put on the link cost 2k +...

Seiko SARB035 or SARB033. You won't go wrong.

Otherwise, Orient Star Elegant.

For $500 range Seiko you'll wanna look at the SAR line. I'd usually recommend SARB065 or SARB035, SARB017 if you like green. But it looks like you're looking for a slightly more complicated dial with tastes more towards the Presage line. That's gonna hit $1k+

You can try looking through http://www.watchsleuth.com/ for tonnes and tonnes of Seikos.

BTW it seems both watches you referenced that are chronographs. You won't find any japanese/swiss mechanical chronographs at $500 and will have to look at chinese movements like in Seagull and Solvil et Titus. Or you can settle for mecha-quartz hybrids (e.g SNDC31)

Yup you are right I would like a more complicated dial and yea the presage line is what I would buy only after I am entirely sure and my research is done. Anyway from my understanding Solvil et Titus movement is seagull right? What is the general sensing of it, is it durable or it is fancy and breaks... the design on the Titus is really nice. But I am worried about the movement as I been reading up on watchuseek and it isn't known other than East Asian region after the real Titus from Swiss got sold to HK. I know I should minimally get a seiko or orient as I wouldn't go wrong and they are workhorses from forums that I have read. So are Titus any good?

I've had both the seagull 1963 chronographs in 38mm acrylic crystal and 42mm sapphire crystal. both has its merits. the 38mm has a domed acrylic crystal and a nice dial layout while the 42mm is kind of big and more modern, but loses the domed crystal and the dial seem a bit big for the sub dials and hands. But suits my wrist better.

the caseback is what mesmerized me. really nice at this price point.

For Solvil et Titus movement, can ask ah yeo to comment. He good in movement and also own few titus if I'm not wrong
