Since now U already buy and u cant do much with the seller, If I were U, I would send it in to RSC for an overhaul. One shot do up the movement of your watch swee swee. 2005 till now almost 12 yrs I think its high time an overhaul is done. Since U mentioned exterior of the watch 10/10 its either he left it inside a nox unworn or he sent for polishing before selling. Either way Im of the opinion of spending more and sending it to RSC. Any faulty parts will be replaced with original rolex parts and cleaned up properly.

No point buying expensive watches and scrimping on the maintenance costs. But thats just me.

guys. i recently got a rolex explorer 114270. 10/10 exterior. i asked the seller how's time keeping. he says the time keeping is good. anyway..it's bad when i took it home. :( it's +20s per day.

i went to top hour in hope to regulate the timing. mr lim oiled it. now it's +10s per day. i think it's in need of an overhaul.

rsc quoted $920. 5 weeks downtime. there's no service record for my watch.

should i go ahead with rsc? the watch has never been serviced before. btw it's a 2005 watch. or...3rd party can do an equally good job at a fraction (300-500) of the price? +2/-2 sec per day standard?

which is a better option for me? :o

Places like KB watches can do it for ~$300 and downtime of 2 weeks.

RSC costs more and takes longer. You do the math...

Personally I sent my wife's AP back to AP service centre even though it cost me double. Because it's an older and less common watch, I was worried about genuine spare parts if sent to a small watch shop.

Typically "In House Movements" should be sent back to the service centre despite costing more due to 1) Parts Availability, 2) Knowledge of Movement. But of cos with more common "In House Movements" like Rolex, many 3rd party shops are able to handle and parts are easily available but Im just abit anal when it comes to such things. Service centres are always the way to go if Im considering a major service or overhaul.

thanks. ya, gotta accept it as a buyer's risk when getting something from non-dealer. guess rsc is the best option..but gonna be painful to the pocket. good thing is..there's 2yrs warranty after the servicing.

some popular watchsmith are ex-rolex watchsmiths. i guess they are good with their tools for authenticating..polishing. but overhaul..probably requires better machineries. i am answering my own question. haha. :s13:

absolutely agree to this... alot of my clients always dress down. Simple polo shirt, business pants and leather shoes. or Polo shirt + jeans + regular sports shoes.

you would never expect them to be loaded until they take out their unlimited card or make a simple phone call to transfer the money required.

Actually although nowadays many people claim credit cards are no longer an indication of one's wealth, holding certain cards actually do mean that particular person are of a certain financial standing. Whipping it out and passing to the sales, they will in awe when certain cards are flashed, as which you mentioned have no pre set credit limit (There still is but depending on spending and paying history). So yeah, the average credit or charge card nothing special but when it comes to certain cards, its does affect the perception of you.

Back to the grind after AM vacation leave...

Nice AP!

@delrosa

To be frank, too much supply of preowned PAM in the market now. On average, I noticed 2nd hand dealers publish 4 PAM, 4 Rolex, 2 other watches for every 10 they posts up in IG.

So keep it first, you won't know if the PAM fever comes back

I decided to try and sell the Pam 562 as I have no more love for it :D But thanks for the advise, will most probably keep them and evaluate how the situation goes.

Yup, same goes for cars. For mine, I would do oil change outside if I go out of warranty, minor repairs, a specialist outside will do just fine. But when it comes to gearbox or overhaul of any sorts, back to the authorised distributor. Any issues later, banging table or writing to their german HQ confirm get it settled. Done it a few times already and solves all the issues. So yeah, get it overhauled at RSC though many would disagree and prefer to get it done outside. Decision lies solely on you. :)

One thing i dun like servicing at rsc is that polishing cost is 'bundled' in. I will ask them not to do it - same price though

actually if it's just slow/fast, probably no issue with 3rd party overhaul as what is needed is cleaning of all parts especially the mainspring. That's quite "basic" and in places like the US & Europe, many enthusiasts do such jobs themselves.

If it doesn't run at all or there is something which requires part replacement, then RSC will be a better choice.

1 of the reason for me to stick with rolex brand..is it's not difficult to get 3rd party to service the watch. machiam like honda easier to get spare parts than peugeot in 3rd party workshops. my worry is..don't know if my watch requires part replacement or not. hmmm....:o

Normally the 3rd party can do a quick check and open up caseback to advise you.

Based on what you described, very likely just servicing and cleaning up of old lubricant on the movement plus regulation.

Carrera on grey leather suede from Bandrbands. I like how the subdial matches the grey of the strap. The colors look more similar IRL.
