I think if one is into vintage and spending that amount of money, he owes himself the favour to do his due diligence BEFORE making the purchase.

IMHO, I would think it doesn't make sense for any physical shop to risk their reputation for small gains and more likely that they were not experienced enough to have spotted the issues.
I think the crux here is whether they claimed 100% original parts. If yes, that's plain deception.

On reputation, some shops just don't care ma. Past performance is not indicative of future reliability or service. My earlier experience says it all...

Which group is it anyways? SG ROC Trading Group?

i doubt its small gains. to be honest, some guy came to sell their piece, say monster got it for 15k by lowballing the seller.
then they put it up for more than 20k, claiming its all original.

there are 2 scenario in this.

either monster time are too stupid to even spot the the franken parts and got cheated themselves when the seller tell them its original.

or

monster time knows about it and tries to pull a quick one (heard too many about this).

so as a shop, you're supposed to know what is what before trying to buy off people and sell to customers. do your homework, as a shop, if a seller try to pull a fast one on you, you're there to detect and reject the sale.

on the other hand, customers rely on the shop "expertise" to tell them what is what.
beside that, since a customer is ready to drop 20 over k on a piece of vintage, its also his duty to do his own due diligence before deciding.
comon, it's 20grand, not 2grand. if you dont do your own homework, you're just walking into a trap especially this kind of vintage game, every possible part changed will be a loss of its value.

so at the end of the date, monster time smart, they claimed its 100% original - could be 100% original omega parts or franken with 100% period original parts or 100% original untouched parts.
It doesn't says alot when it simply puts 100% original parts.

the person who call them out should have done it in a subtle way by sending a PM, if no changes were made then call monster time out.

so after calling out on monster time and they were defensive about it and trying to use legal means to their way could only mean one thing, they're shady as f and they know they are trying to pull a fast one.

that's why i say stay away from monster time unless you know what you're doing.

stay away from vintage too, alot of cases of people getting cheated because simply they don't do their leg work to learn about it. even till today, i still don't really know what is period correct, just too many things to learn.

unless you're fine with having a franken parts - for some i know as long its original, they like the patina and what not, they don't really care about period correct or not, just buy and wear it, ownself song.

till today, even experts speaks out they know this and that, but who is really there to judge if that is indeed from the 50s, 60s, or 70s?
their judgement could be wrong too.

this is the uncertainty in the vintage game. so proceed with care.

just met a "fellow" enthusiast on carousell. drop me a pm and ask what's the movement does SBDC053 uses, replied 6R15 which he could have easily googled given the reference/model number is on the listing.

replied thank you and i asked am i your google search engine? then starts to ramble about being not helpful to a fellow enthusiast and i am business driven.

god damn it, why is it so hard to google a simple basic spec of a watch?

if you ask me, maybe what's the beat rate or more in depth questions, maybe i could help you out of course with you showing interest in getting the watch. but no.

expect people to spoon feed as if it should given, self entitled prick. 16 years of basic education has taught him nothing.

ok end of rant.

if you're the prick here, too bad. learn something about googling for info. this is the 21st century where internet and information are readily available right at your fingertips.
if you don't have fingers, use siri, just speak to it.

ok ok, one question that cannot google.
whats the serial no.? :D
I pantang, want good no. then can consider =:p

Whether the buyer does his due diligence before buying vintage, is his perogative.
The issue here is that the seller just conveniently pushes away his responsibility by saying its consignment, and thus passing the risk to the customer.
Good strategy maybe, but integrity wise.... :s39:
Bad seller like him giving the vintage scene a bad name, causing newbies to avoid it like the plague.

Hi pwillie, thanks for your reply. Do you know if anyone locally can service the Vaucher movement used in the Aquadive 500, or it has to be sent back to Aquadive HQ? Thank you!

Not likely, 3rd party may be able to service, but parts will be hard to get here.
Esp when the mvmt is a expensive one

I agree. Too bad that when you run a business, your reputation is lost when you are not forthcoming to take any responsibility when stuff like this happens, regardless if it is your fault or not.

Thanks gaoxing84 and pwillie for the advice. Trying to resist the urge to get an Aquadive but the will seems to be getting weaker by the day.
