i think u have more insider knowledge...is it only SG ADs or are all ADs around the world doing the same. From my understanding, the article in business times a long time ago was only refering to SG ADs...
not alot of insider info ba. pure reading of forums.
In US, big dealers in big cities, sells to grey dealer in US themselves or maybe offload overseas buyers that buy in bulk.
Shipping is not an option as customs tax and all render it useless.
Risk of being stolen means insurance costs - all adds up.
In smaller cities where rolex AD is family owned or what not, those are the ones that legit sell to consumer only. may not have discounts but at least they do keep it in stock + small cities, not alot of folks would buy rolexes day in day out (Source-
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=573914) the last time i see this scene in SG AD was back in 2015-2016.
Countries like iceland all these, they do have Rolex AD and they do have it in stock but they do the PWP scheme.
you have to buy a less than popular datejust or diamond studded piece then they are willing to sell you popular pieces like the Daytona C at retail.
This is from a friend who i told him to find Daytona C in iceland when he was there.
Actually it can be broken even.
Say you buy a datejust for 20k. DaytonaC at retail.
you come back sg, maybe offload to the datejust at a loss of say 3-5k.
Effectively you only pay 21-23k for a brand new Daytona C, at least 2-3k cheaper than it was offered here at 25-27k at ADs.
Risk is SG customs + unable to offload the datejust. So you must know your game well before you do this kind.
Usually Asian AD will chut pattern, western AD not so. But they don't offer discount as well as Asian AD used to do.
They offer freebies or what no afaik.
as for the complaints of premium, i think even in the US, it happened.
So Rolex received worldwide complains and decide to send an official email to all ADs.
As for people like Ben Clymer, John Mayer etc, they probably paid retail from AD since they're celebrities or important people in the world of watches.
People like us, can suck it up and pay premium.
I can tell you, Daytona Ceramic confirm u won't see retail in stores for another 2-3 years to come. Or even more.
Last time SS Daytona, walk into rolex AD still have, discount is about 3-5%.
