Exactly, find it kinda sad when watches are associated with resale value .

Bb58 will retain value. Bb41 and pelagos will lose value once you walk out of the shop.

But buy 1 watch that you like la. Dont look at value retention if youre just buying 1 watch

Er... I lost almost $600 on my brand new Black Bay, sold it off after few months of wear. Problem is it's too thick and top heavy. Pawnshop don't even take in tudor. Watch shop will low ball you. Carousell is the only place you can sell but there are many competition, thus pushing down the pricing further.

Please get a pre-owned rolex datejust 16013, 16014 or 16233 , 16234 instead, fit your budget and it's a Rolex.

thanks both for your input. I'll definitely want to get 1 that i like as well since i intend to wear it often. I find rolex too showy, maybe tudor just nice and doesn't scream "guys I'm here!".

Then you can go try bb58 and see if you like,if yes don't mind waiting leave your name with ad and wait
Since it's your first watch it's fun to slowly explore but with your budget can't think of any watch which retain value other then bb58.

These two pools often do not intersect.

Anyways, it's a hobby, I can't tell if you want to earn from your hobby, or if you want to reduce the losses/input into the hobby.

If it is the former, my advice is that mixing the two ("earning" and "hobby") guarantees that you won't enjoy your hobby, because it means that your decisions for the hobby will be guided more by $ rather than enjoyment - don't believe that crock of **** that some people sell about "having a job that you're passionate about means you'll never work a day" - only a select few get to climb to the top and do whatever they want, and people seek them out and they are able to call the shots. Just forget about calling it a hobby and just focus on resale value, see if you become a grey dealer long term. Then just buy whatever is hot, establish the contacts, don't bother with this idea of "what I like".

If it is the latter, my simple advice is to go second hand. If you buy low, and let others take the loss for you, you won't lose so much.

Can't have your cake and eat it too, no such thing as that..

Tudor Black Bay is definitely not designed for the Asian wrist.

If I wanted to size it properly, I would have to knock out some of the fixed links in the bracelet..

I wore it for 2 days, and sold off. Kinda silly that the minimum sizing ensured that the watch was always lopsided on my wrist, as the clasp would be off centre.

Not sure about the 58, maybe it is better in this regard (the watch size is also probably better for Asian wrist anyways), but I don't really need a Sub *and* a BB58..

Haha, I am not alone in this. Was aiming for the black bay Chrono as well...until its even heavier on the watch head. :s22: (nice to see but not nice to wear). Will suggest you try it out at the AD first before commiting.

I am still waiting for a BB58 with a date. I can't stand a watch without date...seems incomplete to me.

I'm actually open to the second hand market.... but I dunno if the watch is authentic and haiz... what a steep curve to learn the difference between fake and real watches...

thanks for your educational input. This is gonna be the 1st real big purchase I'm making for myself...

Have to agree, when resale value comes into the picture it is almost always a compromise on your decision making.
So when some people proclaim their love for all things rolex.... 🤔

Can consider getting from bright time, chuan, finest time all this, if from carousel meet seller at top hour for authentication.

You can pay a premium and buy from established shops like Chuan, Png, Brighttime etc. If you're buying a modern piece, the risks of getting a fake from these places are low. It will still be cheaper than buying new, of course. The exception will be pieces with overheated market demand.. Usually I don't go for these pieces cos to me, it's a huge risk. Rolex overheated today, doesn't mean always overheated. One only needs to look at Panerai of yesteryear. I would not pay anything over RRP for any watch, or suck up to an AD in the hopes that he gives me a piece at RRP that I could potentially flip for a profit - but that's just me. I also refuse to queue for any food for more than 10 minutes. :s13: Life is just too short.

Alternatively, make sure you authenticate the watch before purchasing from independent sellers. I think this option is overall cheaper, but a bit more of a hassle.

Did you know that you can remove the 5th link on 6 o'clock side?

You need to remove the clasp fold over first using needle tool then unscrew and detach that link from the clasp and 4th link.

Then screw the 4th link back to the clasp and reattach the fold over.

Then it will hang on your wrist the same way as any Rolex with oyster bracelet (also minimum 4 links on 6 o'clock).

Yep, I can size it right. The link and clasp size is the issue. Even with minimum sizing at 6 o clock, the clasp kept shifting the watch such that it took up the span of my wrist below, which resulted in the watch being lopsided on top. Can't remember whether it was too low or too high on top, but it was just always off center. Took back to AD and they ask if I wear to knock out a fixed link to allow me to add one more link on the other side which should solve the issue.

Alternatively, I could wear it looser but that was not preferred. In any case, had the Pelagos already and didn't like it enough (felt it was too big and thick), went back to Sub.

P.S. I have a very flat 6.25inch wrist that "wears" like a 7 incher.

Ya lor. I think my Pelagos surely dont hold value. Definitely lose to Bb. In fact when at the shop i was told LHD holds value better, but i went with what i like which is blue evetually. Now looking forward at whats the next watch to save for.

Personally, i would buy something i like and comfortable for me to wear. I sold mm300 even when i love it but it was just heavy for me.
